Whatever happened with the Boxer, Tubbs-Jones Flower Delivery? |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 01:14 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
Were these delivered, and if so, when and to whom? I couldn't find any information here that indicated they had been delivered. Thanks adding link to thread that requested donations... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=260269&mesg_id=260269

|
We need to get a report from him. He told me they were to be delivered this Monday or Tuesday. He promised to email receipts for the flowers to contributers, so you might email him asking for that.

7. The flowers were delivered |
|
I have a manifest of deliveries which shows the flowers were shipped, and I have confirmation from Michone Johnson in the House Judiciary office that Conyers' office their delivery, and that the roses were very much appreciated.
I am, however, quite busy on some work-related stuff now that the coronation is passed. I'm also in the process of packing for a trip away this weekend.
I find it absolutely obnoxious that some would suggest that you were scammed. You should be ashamed of yourselves if that is what you are thinking!
Next week when I have a few minutes I will mail to the donors the manifest, figure out what the balance is, and perhaps the overage can go to a charity. Or it can remain with USVIP to help support the web site. Whatever you want - I don't care.
Ok?

You have to admit that scamming is common on the web. I and others here would have appreciated you informing us about the delivery as soon as you knewabout it - it might have prevented this.
Anyway - thank you for putting your time and effort into this. I appreciate it very much!

I didn't like the way your post was worded, it did not seem to be a jest. I just spent the past 18 months working on e-voting activism, at overwhelming personal cost, and I will not have my character assailed.
And no, we don't know each other. But at some point, if you really want to win, you have to decide to trust some folks. But each and every one of you have my e-mail and could have written to ask instead of accusing me of theft.

I'm going back to packing for my trip.

but I, and many of us, have been donating left and right for the past 3 months--to Kerry, BBV, Ohio recount, Washington recount, this flower delivery, etc. Forgive the paranoia, but we really aren't sure what was done with our money in some of these cases... It doesn't seem too unreasonable for us to want to know who received flowers, when they were delivered, and what, if any, feedback there has been. You did say you would keep us informed, and we haven't heard anything for awhile. Who did they actually go to? Thanks.
Forgot to wish you a good trip--skiing? And BTW, if there is any surplus of $, I vote you use it for your website.

I'm moving from the SF Bay Area to Mt. Shasta (way up in the mountains, 5 hours north of here) in the Spring. I'm taking a load of garage stuff, taking care of some errands over the weekend, and generally making arrangements for the "big move". 20 years in one home is long enough - time for new scenery out the window.

I've never lived in snow, but I'm really fed up with traffic. I'm in Gerstle Park, which is less than a mile from 101. But that mile can take 20 minutes mid-day, and I tend to not bother leaving here unless I absolutely have to.
Up in Santa Rosa, that bottleneck on 101 makes me absolutely crazy. And surface streets have become gridlock in recent years.
Mt. Shasta will be a much slower pace, with only a few stop lights, and a lot of open country. I'm a fly fisher and plan to spend a lot of time in the local streams tormenting trout. Spring through Fall is simply going to rock. Plus there is a huge (and growing) progressive community, which I will become active with. I already know some of them and there are wonderful folks to play with.

26. Greg - thank you! But how can you look forward to snow? |
|
Having checked out your site, and received your emails, there was no doubt in my mind the flowers were delivered - I did want to thank you for all you did though.
But, living in Western NY (think Buffalo), I can't understand how anyone could possibly be looking forward to SNOW. I could've sent you some and saved you the trouble of moving!
Good luck! I'm looking forward to the snow going away, myself!

28. Wow! Gerstle Park! We used to be neighbors! |

I lived on Clorinda Ave - beautiful area - and boy, do I miss the political atmosphere of CA (I'm in GA now - BIG DIFFERENCE!).
Too bad about the traffic, etc. It sounds like it has changed a lot since we lived there. With so much property being watershed, I didn't think it would ever happen in Marin. Sad.
But Mt Shasta is beautiful and I know you will enjoy your new home. May miss public transit but at least you will still be in one of the Liberal capitals of the country. Good luck and nice weekend to you.

I'm off of Greenwood, just beyond the park. And as for public transport, since I work for myself in a home-office, public transport is of little importance to me these days. I spent years riding the 24 from Sir Francis Drake down into SF; sure don't miss those days.
When did you leave Marin? And why!?

32. I take it you are back from Mt Shasta and I hope you had a |
|
successful weekend.
We left CA in 1987 when my husband's company (Del Monte) was bought by RJR Nabisco. He was promoted by RJR and they moved us to Atlanta for the short time before H Ross Johnson did his thing. Many people had to move to NY or NJ then but since we had family in GA, my husband found work locally and we have been here ever since. Actually love ATL except for the politics - but we loved CA too. In my view, not a more beautiful place on earth - at least that I have seen. The politics has become a big enough issue that I would consider moving back to the Bay Area - but I am not sure that is far enough away either. I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed for change.
I am very sorry to hear that San Rafael has grown enough to experience traffic as you sighted. I never minded taking GG Transit into the city - usually slept or read the paper - either way, it wasn't me fighting the traffic the way we have to here in Atlanta. We also loved to take the Larkspur Ferry over for a change now and then. Not the fastest, but sure a pleasant way to get to work. Though in the flood of '82 (I think it was) my husband managed to get on the Ferry before they shut down all of GGT but then the police wouldn't let me through to pick him up - so he had to walk from the Ferry terminal, up and down Wolf Grade, all the way to Clorinda, in the pouring rain, with massive flooding, and a briefcase. Lovely memory . . .
Small world, isn't it? Anyway, I hope you love Mt Shasta - hang on to that job you can just pick up and take with you. Certainly a huge advantage . . . .

24. For the record, there was an announcement awhile ago... |

at least a week and a half because it was before I left for Key West that informed us the goal had been met, thanked everyone for the donations (especially the generous soul who topped us off with a whopper of a donation) and said when the deliveries would be made.

and no offense to anyone, but it shouldn't matter whether one gave $5 or $100, we ALL contributed and all contributions are worthy...
It's just that there was no confirmation of delivery and no follow-up. I don't mean to beat this to death, but the responsible thing to do would have been to follow through and let us know what exactly happened with the money we donated. That is all I am going to say on the subject.

Okay, the part about the whopper was my perspective. I do agree with you, but the large donation came as a surprise and that was how it was expressed. No one's contribution was diminished in any way that I could tell.
