Is anyone else getting phone calls from LaRouche people?
They called me yesterday and today and left voice messages since I wasn't home. To paraphrase, she said something like:

"Hello Dave, this is Renee down at EIR at Lyndon Larouche's office. We're down here doing everything we can and spearheading the effort to bring down the Bush Administration by roadblocking Social Security privatization and we're reaching out to everybody who signed the call for investigation of the election to do now what almost got done during the election, bringing these guys down."

And she left a phone number for me to contact her. It didn't sound like a recording, she called me by name.
Have any of you gotten these calls? I don't recall signing anything related to LaRouche (I don't have a high opinion of the man), has he been working with the Glibs?
Is this really a LaRouche thing or is he just allowing the use of his offices? What is EIR?
I'm not really interested in working with them (they probably just want money anyway) but I'm curious about what's going on and how they got my number. I suppose we should welcome allies but LaRouche is a little too strange for me and I'm not sure that having him associated with progressive efforts is a good thing. When they use words like "spearheading" it sounds to me like they're trying to take credit that isn't due to them!

Larouche's Executive Intelligence Review -- the Larouchie equivalent of The Moonie Times or the Heritage Foundation's Cybercast News Service. This is a cult that likes to believe that all evil descends from the Queen of England and the Beatles were a British psychological warfare experiment. :-)

Don't make it bad... :-)

Personally I always thought that Britney Spears and clones were CIA MKUltra type psy-op.

6. Just to be clear
to skypilot and salvorhardin, I'm aware of all of the crazy stuff associated with LaRouche and I have no intention of getting involved in any way. I'm just curious as to how they got my info and I was wondering if anyone else here has gotten similar calls. I'm assuming that they got my name from some website (not DU of course) or newsletter that I signed up for and I thought that maybe others here had gotten similar calls. It bothers me that they have my home phone # since I don't recall giving that out. I do have an unusual last name so maybe they just looked it up.
To anyone reading this who isn't familiar with LaRouche; listen to skypilot and salvorhardin, it's a cult-like political movement and you should steer clear of it.
I just hope that they're not knocking on my door next!

11. Sorry
Didn't mean to imply you were considering drinking the LaRouchie Kool-Aid. I was primarily answering your question about EIR and elaborated on it for those not aware of LaRouche's cult. It's one of my main contentions that a majority of people, including many on the left, don't realize the backgrounds of all these differing organizations and individuals claiming to be authoritative on a given subject. These groups and people are constantly quoted and interviewed in the main stream media as if they were credible.

19. Did you sign an online petition?
I suspect that's a good way for them to get ahold of you. I had one call me for about a week a few years back.....they're a little too pushy with their agenda. They may share some common ground, but I'd be wary of that group. I think once they get a toehold, they don't back off.

I don't think I got more than one call from them, but I've been very wary of online petitions ever since.

24. Same here.
I'm very bad at telling people off on the phone, so instead I pretended to listen while I talked to people online.

He was trying to get me to join some crazy youth movement too... weird, weird, weird shit :scared:

and seem to be serious in thinking the Bush people are dangerous;
they make a strong case on many things.

10. Yes, I also had a call from them
and I spoke to them for quite awhile. They really hate bush as much as I do and are sending out fliers about the SS privatization. I have heard the name LaRouche before but I'm not familiar with their philosophy, therefore I was impressed that they felt about this administration as I do. And, yes, they did ask for money to help pay for the fliers. I will have to do a google search to learn about this group. Cult????

spartan61,
God, I hope the flyers don't include some of his other crazy stuff, it could hurt us. Just having his name on them could be harmful to fighting SS piratization.

13. I have
Gary something... He got me on the phone just before the certification if the election. I listened to what he had to say and agreed with 90% but told him I was helping the Greens as much as possible but would check out his web site.

I then found out what a wack job this Larouche was and decided to distance myself.

The guy calls me 10 times a week now .

I think I might have to discuss this with him

17. LaRouche is not working with the Glibs.
Also I did not see any LaRouche people even hanging around at the actual recount. However his people have been coming around pretty much everywhere we go since. (January 6th rally and march, etc.)

A LaRouche thing, but I've seen good articles and heard good reviews, always with a warning label about LaRouche.

21. DOPE INC. is a good read.
Permindex/Permanent Industrial Extermination; interesting interpretation of corporatist mo. Roy Cohn, et al. LaRouche probably gets a lot of info that people wish to float in a round about way.

But Bush senior definitely put the hit on John Lennon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

22. A group of LaRouche people were at the Jackson Rally in Columbus Jan 3
Talked very quickly, and was ready with a roladex of index cards so they could get my "contact information" -- which I refused to fill out. Walked with us for a while before going back to their perch.

23. Cult vs cult??
This could be interesting.

I had a friend who made his living playing speed chess with disaffected coffee house dwellers and other slacker types. One day he was playing chess with another guy and a kid he didn't know perched over the top of the board kibitzing. My friend had found a lyndon Larouche pamphlet and began a 15 minute monolog about how crazy the guy was which ended with, "can you believe how crazy this guy is?" The kid said, "yeah, he's my father."

25. I thought I was free of them...
Since my last post on the 28th I've heard nothing from these people and I assumed that I had discouraged them by simply deleting and ignoring their messages. I was wrong. I got home on Wednesday, Feb. 2 and found 4 calls from "Publications GE" listed on my caller ID and there were TWO voice messages (both left on the same day) from some woman from the Larouche organization. I guess I'm going to be deleting a lot of messages for a while.
