Renewed my anger today. Please post inpsirations!
About ten minutes ago I watched Faye and Dzikas incredibly moving stolen election video.... I didnt think I could be more moved the second time around, yet here I am writing to you, my fellow DUers through teary eyes.

I found myself in doubt today... doubt if thankyoupatriot.com or velvetrevolution.com could make a difference. Doubt if Will and Brad could make a difference... doubt if RawStory, BreakforNews, and Nashua Advocate could make a difference. Doubt if DU could....

While watching the video, with hot lava like tears of rainbowed emotions streaming freely down my face. I realized something... there is no "could" they make a difference, there is no "can" they make a difference. All of these people and sites "have" made a difference. They "will" make a difference in the future as well, of that I am quite certain!

You activists here online and in real life will make all the difference in the world in due time as well. That world is counting on our kind to prove what they already know, that this election was stolen. That our country has had a silent coup. That we are now under the controlling auspices of a regime of hate and greed filled neo-cons. PNAC has been followed to a T thus far and so we know what is coming next.

In order to stop the coming insanity we have to fight now! We have to fight harder and smarter than in the '60s. There is no way out of this but to fight for the vote that we know has been stolen. We cannot beat them in the street, we cannot beat them on the MSM but if we have our votes back we can beat them at the ballot box (like we already did! twice!!).

As Iraq has its blatantly rigged elections and as many die for those elections I find inspiration in my watery eyed anger that we are not alone, not here and certainly not abroad. The danger and imminent threat that the Bush junta is to all living beings is widely recognized. I find hope and solace in that alone, but whats more is the effect that a few honest and compassionate citizens can have on some elected officials.

These days are full of history as yet to be determined. These days are open to people like us to stand up and say "no fucking more!". These days are the beggining of a different kind of world, waiting in its desperate and countless needs for the true armies of compassion, truth, and justice to rise up and claim freedom and liberty from the cold and perverse grip of the neocons.

We all must not, can not, will not let them down. We must redouble our fighting efforts or lose all that was once held dear by, for and about America. Our America and the worlds America.

I will never give up, I will fight with you my brothers and sisters until the changes we seek have come or I have passed on. I plead with you to do the same and if you have a day of doubt just watch that video, just watch it and think about not only what we lost but what the world lost that black black day....

In peace and solidarity forever.

We are making a difference. However small it may feel on a personal level, collectively we can move mountains. Keep remembering that when you feel low - I will, too.

BTW, what video is that? I haven't seen it.

i'm glad you were inspired. that was one of the many things i was trying to do with the concept of the video. not just to educate those who dont' know much of what happened - but to remind the people that were involved (including everyone here in DU) that everyone CAN make a difference and we can't rely on anyone but ourselves to get this done. it really feels good to look at all that live video action and know that THE PEOPLE were the driving force behind it. (especially Jan. 6th)

you might want to listen to the lyrics of the song again too - it's what always kept me inspired to stay involved and focused on this.

thank you for posting this, i feel like i accomplished what i set out to do :toast:

btw - to quote the song: "You've got to be the best, you've got to change the world and use this chance to be heard. Your time is now."

Fights, battles have begun
Revenge will surely come
Your hard times are ahead

You've got to be the best
You've got to change the world
And use this chance to be heard
Your time is now

Change
Everything you are

10. you are not alone in your anger
Your words moved me to my own tears. I have days full of fear and doubts as well.
When I see what is happening in Iraq, so many dead for no reason, the lives of countless others torn to pieces, I am deeply ashamed of my country. It is very easy to feel discouraged. It's easy to feel helpless.
However, I wasn't born a political activist, the actions of this administration are making me into one. And I am not alone in that.
I am ever so grateful to all the brave patriots out there who are fighting for the ideals that Americans hold dear. They fight in the face of such enormous opposition. I am honored to stand with them and raise my voice with theirs, "no fucking more"
I have no idea what will come to pass. I only know that whatever comes I need to be able to say to myself,to my children, and to all of the world,
"I did what I could and no less for the sake of truth, liberty and the future of this country"
We can never give up.
Take heart, you are not alone.

Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 07:36 PM by Amaryllis
it will happen. I often think of the Lord of the Rings, which I see as a metaphor for any time it looks like the forces of evil are winning. There were all these different groups of people, all fighting for freedom and against oppression, and many times one group didn't know what the other groups were doing, but they all kept on, and it took all of them to do it. Any one group alone could not have done it, but all of them working to take care of whatever was in front of them to do were able to do it together.

I live in a very liberal city and it is amazing how many people know the election was stolen. They just don't know what to do about it. I am always getting new people on my email list! Two of the people at my library, the checker at the natural foods store...we just have to keep at it. And keep doing the action items posted here. See this which has a
Feb. 8 deadline but is very important:

31. thanks for your thoughts, frictionless,
I don't know you but your words are strong and bold and inspiring.
If enough of us come together with that kind of fighting spirit we can work miracles.

You said it--"these days are the beginning of a different kind of world."
Nov 2, 2004 = Black Tuesday
Time stopped for me that day too. The odometer went back to zero. Instant vertigo. Everything now is strange and new.

Already we are living in a different world I think. It's a better place to be because I see others like you & all here taking action to resist this abuse, this oppression, these stupid "selections." I see all kinds of people waking up, coming together, working to return some semblance of democracy to this country, even struggling to figure out what democracy really means, groping around in the dark, searching for the America they thought they knew before it got hijacked. So many are working to cut through the myths at home and in our "fight away from home" in Iraq. It's really better now because it's no longer about swallowing the kool-aid and turning away and moving on and all that. It's about paying attention now, paying close attention. I can begin to imagine the new world that we are creating. Trying not to be fearful of this herculean challenge before us. Just trying to give something, whatever the best contribution may be. Quoting laurie Anderson, it feels like time to jump now. Time to jump out of the plane. It appears there is no pilot. But we are not alone. We have each other now. We are like skydivers linking arms, all over the country. We are fighting for our sanity and for our future now. Serious business.

33. I speak to a statewide TN Dem meeting today and I plan to tell the truth.
What has depressed me the most (other than the complicity of the corporate media in the election theft) is the passivity of my party in not fighting the illegitimate coup that has consumed our democratic processes here in the country. I suppose I should not be surprised because too many of our state Dem party officials are indistinguishable from Repugs and seem to live by the mantra "you gotta go along to get along" without ever asking just where the hell we're going with the Republi-Nazis at the wheel.

Well, today, in front of about half the county Democratic party chairs in the Orange State, I plan to tell them that Emperor Duh-bya has no clothes and received fewer votes than he needed to stay in power. I plan to focus on this handful of hard evidence that the election was stolen:

1) Pre-election voter suppression actions
2) Election day dirty tricks
3) The ease of election theft when our votes have no paper trail
4) The exit poll/"reported" vote disconnect
5) Freeman's analysis of the distribution of the 2004 votes of 2000 voters, 3rd party voters and new voters -- and how the math doesn't add up.

For good measure, I'll throw in the efforts to interfere with, disrupt and ignore the law in the recount efforts in Ohio and other states. And I'll try to do all this in 15-20 minutes (thank God for PowerPoint and DU data). And then I'll ask my audience whether they want to keep averting their eyes from the naked Emperor or whether any of them represent the Democratic wing of the TN Democratic Party and are prepared to act as if they still have balls (at least ones as big as Senator Boxer's.)

As I was going to bed last night, I heard Samual L. Jackson on Leno talking about his latest movie "Coach Carter". It's a great film about a high school basketball coach who benched his undefeated team in a blue-collar Bay Area city in the middle of the season because they violated their agreements with him by flunking their courses. As might be imagined, Coach Carter caught hell but he prevailed, according to Jackson, because he had " ... courage, guts and stamina ...." I'll end by asking whether we have any Coach Carters in the TN Democratic Party who will speak up and act, in the presence of abundant evidence that our democratic processes have also been violated -- that our government's legitimacy based on the "consent of the governed" has earned a failing grade in 2004. I will ask whether we have any Coach Carters who are willing to display the courage, guts, stamina, fierce intelligence and balls that will be necessary to take our country back.

I am going with the expectation that there are still some strong and patriotic men and women left in the Orange State. And I don't expect to be disappointed or -- if I am -- to be silent in the presence of cowardice and complicity. We'll see whether there are many Orange State Volunteers for democracy there today. I know there will be at least a handful there and that's really all we need, based on Margaret Mead's wisdom and DU's good example. Wish me luck, and with your good thoughts, help me keep my ferocious indignation wrapped with tact and accompanied by a clear path toward redemption of our governmental ideals. If nothing else, it will be a good way to stay warm on this wet, cold day in the middle of our undeserved winter of discontent in the Orange State.

Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights. That's the ticket, and nothing less.

37. This is the 2+2=5 Syndrome... this is what to do..
I have had this happen almost on a weekly basis at least once. It is when your mind cannot hold up under the "2+2=5" system. What you do is this, no joke... works for me:

1). No news, news forums, ugly or disturbing pictures, sad movies, or in general, no media other than... comedies (but not satire); trash mags/tabloids only...gossip things; work on your hobby or work on some project.

2). Do this for 72 hours.

3). When you come back, come back slowely... first the forums, then the TV, etc.

4). Remember, that you are not alone, you are not insane, and you are living in the real world... the rest is BS. Do not doubt yourself on that account.

Hope this helps some. Sending you a hug and some people magazines piled up on my kitchen table (needed for emergencies, lmao).

This spring and summer when we take to the streets and protest we will become known even more. We must protest the media, our government, and the stolen election. If we let this go away then no-one will ever get involved. We must never stop. I'm not going too. I promise.

44. Ahhhhh my fellow Patriots, I am in awe of you! I only hope to stand just
as strong, I will not give this country up to them, Never!

I have a picture of my father right here above my monitor, He had served his country in Korea, gone now. But I look into his eyes, and I cry. This is not the country he so bravely fought for.

I have grandchildren too, I can not leave this country as it is. I have to fight for it. Not for me, but for them.

I don't stand alone and that is what gives me heart. Thank you, all of you fine Patriots, you give me hope!

45. So many more of us than we know...
Fantastic insights and continuing battle cry, FrictionlessO. I did not get involved with the public outcry at the election fraud until I heard that the Greens and Libs were looking for donations. I heard it on the Rhandi Rhodes show on AAR. Shortly thereafter I discovered DU as I sought to find information with like minded individuals. I went to this sight dutifully for a good month before I decided to become a member. My point is that it is a grassroots movement and it is gaining strength on a daily basis. I wish there was some magic fairy out there to let us know the numbers of those who are fighting and talking. I am sure we would be astounded. It is going to happen. I do believe that, I just don't know how or when. But seeing this dedication and outrage daily gives me hope and strength. We are lucky to have such an apparent evil dragon to slay. We have skills and have been taught by our last generation that this kind of protest will work in a Democracy. We are seeing that come true on a daily basis. The followers are leading. The actions are growing. We are finding ways to communicate in spite of a powerful propaganda machine that is being run by this abomination of an Administration. The only thing holding us back is to get that info out to the American people. That is happening. We will win, because we must. We are right there with you and will not forgive nor forget nor ever surrender.
The winds of change are blowing...do you feel the breeze?

54. Wow! What this post has brought forth is amazing!
I even collected a bunch of quotes from it, just now. Thank you all for your thoughts! We have a sort of collective consciousness emerging here--involving the blow of 11/2, followed by trauma after trauma, and hope after hope, ups and downs, but a pretty clear vision of what's wrong, and a strong determination to set it right.

I have felt since 11/2 that history tapped us on the shoulder that night with no less a task than saving American democracy, and passing it along to future generations, as it was passed by others to us.

I see that others, too, feel that way--that 11/2 was like a big earthquake. Our democracy came tumbling down all around us, and now we have to figure out how to reconstruct it from the broken pieces.

We had an illusion of democracy, and we were going along with that, thinking things would be put right by an election. Then, poof, gone!

It was a thrilling thing to see the great democracy movement that arose to throw Bush and his cabal out. I've never seen anything like it in my life time, and I go way back (first political activity, for JFK in 1960, when I was 16).

All the more devastating was the robbery of this election, with such a young and beautiful movement just being born. The Dark Lords hacked it to pieces. But it is recovering, slowly, and it will win in the end. Because why? Because truth and justice and democracy and world peace are such fabulous ideas, that have been in development for so very long--for millenia. They are what everybody wants, what the whole world wants. And Bush's retrograde cabal and its PNAC are minor aberrations and very short-lived by comparison.

History is very much on the side of progress, more consciousness, inclusiveness, fairness and higher development of our sensitivity to the environment and to the universe.

But we, who were born to relative privilege and wealth (compared to the rest of the world)--we who were GIVEN democracy, rather than earning it-- must now struggle for what we believe in, just as so many before us struggled, first for democracy, then for inclusiveness and fairness.

It is a tremendous responsibility, and this is truly one of those turning points in history, the question now being whether American democracy, which has inspired so many around the world, can put itself right.

It has always done so in the past--through many terrible events--slavery, the Civil War, the massacres of Native Americans, the violent repression of labor unions, the Depression, the defeat of Nazism, the horror of the Vietnam war--with an ever expanding definition of human and civil rights, and constant improvement in the mechanisms of world peace.

The day that Martin Luther King spoke out against the Vietnam War, and talked about the racism of it--both of the killing of "gooks" (the Vietnamese) and of the drafting of so many poor blacks to do it--was a tremendously important moment. It was his death knell, I believe--and mealy-mouthed, "centrist" Democrats criticized him for connecting the war with racism. I remember that well. But he was so right! And it was a huge and vitally important insight, and one that is essential to world peace.

The BushCons are trying to drag us backward--back to the 1910s and 20s and the era of the Robber Barons. In fact, they've done so. That's where we are now--with the Oil Cartel and the Arms manufacturers in complete control of foreign policy, and the rich blatantly stealing from the poor. The result then was catastrophe--worldwide economic depression and a senseless slaughter such as the world had never seen, in WWI.

And they are also dragging us back to racism. Now we're killing the "ragheads" and stealing their oil. And guess who gets recruited to do that? Once again, often it's young poor blacks with no other options. Then these new fascists turn right around and blatantly suppress black voters, with tactics as racist and illegal as the Jim Crow laws.

Now, it's all going backward. The wealth we have accumulated--from the creativity and productivity of American workers--is being blatantly stolen. The social welfare that we have arranged for the elderly, the sick and the poor--blatantly destroyed and stolen, and fed into the maw of the Military-Industrial monster in our midst. And blatant official racism--in voting, of all things!--goes unpunished.

Backward, backward, backward--that's where they're pushing us. But, you know what? I don't think Americans want to go backward. The majority has been brutally propagandized and made to feel like we are the minority. But if you were to ask almost any American on the street, Do you think blacks should have the right to vote?, or Do you think Social Security should be preserved as the one financially sound government program, and one of the few government programs that actually helps people?, or Should we be working for peace in the world and not killing people in Iraq?--they would answer, "YES!"

There IS a consensus in America, and it is distinctively progressive. That's why they have to use so much propaganda to suppress it. That's why they have to steal our votes. Because if we had honest elections, these retros wouldn't be in office.

It's scary. It's disorienting. But I think it's the truth.

Can we right this ship?

Yes. But...

1. We have to keep our eyes open--and not miss a thing. Not like in the 1960s when, once the Vietnam War was over and the Draft was over, we pretty much forgot about the "military industrial complex" (that Pres. Eisenhower had warned us against!), and left this machinery of war in place--an overwhelming temptation to fascists; and we have to open our eyes to corporate domination and globalization. We have to see it all--what all America has become--and not just muddle along, in "centrist" Democratic Party fashion, constantly compromising away our rights, and our sense of what is right. And...

2. We have to work collectively. Between 1963 and 1968, we lost three progressive leaders in the space of five years, to assassination (JFK, RFK and MLK). More recently, we lost Paul Wellstone, probably to assassination. These events are seared into my soul, and I take the lesson to be: We cannot depend on a great leader arising and surviving to get us out of this mess. We have to do it with REAL democracy--each of us doing our own part. We clearly cannot depend on any of our current leaders. We must lead THEM. Some of them have come through for us in a limited way. But on the whole, they are too compromised, too corrupt, too fearful, too pampered, and too much a part of the problem to be much help.

I hope everyone here at DU takes this latter point to heart--that we have to work collectively. If you've found DU, you're probably a "born leader," and you may have fought other progressive battles. And you may be prey to the syndrome that "it's all up to you"--taking this immense burden of saving our democracy, saving the world, and saving the planet on YOURSELF.

Of all the great things said in this post's comments, I think maybe the wisest was lala_rawraw's (except for the sedatives and antibiotics--good Lord!): Take a 72 hour vacation from everything serious, whenever you find yourself mind-boggled by the 2+2=5 Syndrome. What a great name for it!

Our country is whackadoo right now. We are INSIDE of Alice's "Wonderland" where everything is upside down and backward, and supposedly sentient beings are speaking jabberwockey.

When it gets too intense, take 72 hours off. Be human again. Mess around with hobbies. Talk to people about nothing. Exercise. Get a massage! (Avoid antibiotics and sedatives!)

Others will pick up the slack. What's happening is a great COLLECTIVE effort. The result is going to be REAL REFORM, and a real righting of our ship of state, in ways that it has needed to be righted for many decades.

You are not alone. And it is not all up to you.

And if you get down in the dumps, go look at the photos of Titan, Saturn's moon with the early Earth-like atmosphere, taken on the ground on Titan by the European Space Agency's probe Huygens, 6 BILLION miles away from us. I like photo #5 the best: a beach on Titan.

Then go read Kurt Vonnegut's "The Sirens of Titan" (what a hoot!).

55. I've been somewhat dumbfounded, at what it has brought forth!!
I actually expected it to sink after a comment or two. I have taken much inspiration from the follow on posts, and plan on returning for when I need a lift.

I found your post to be as usual concise, well put, and very well thought out. You always make so much sense and your logic is dead on.

Thank you!!

58. Keep in mind that they're not so invincible as they seem...
They shrink from the truth the way a vampire shrinks from sunlight. Have you noticed how silly and shrill they sound when they're confronted with the truth the way they were on January 6th, and again at the Rice confirmation hearings?

We have to confront them with the truth again, and again, and again. Their denials and denunciations sound less convincing with each repetition.

Continue to apply pressure everywhere, at all times, and the facade begins to crack.

Despite their smugness, their bluster, and their vituperation, their fortress is a house of cards...
