What is the Dem/Repub Ratio?
Prior to the election, there was much discussion about this. Pollsters adjusted up and down for what they thought it was.

When was the last national poll (with a large sample/low MOE) of voters to indicate party ID?

This would seem to be a constant, although freepers were telling me before the election that Repubs had caught up or moved ahead.

If there is a good recent poll in existence on this subject, I think it might be persuasive in arguing that the 13,047 national number was indeed representative of the whole population, if the two match up regarding party ID.

5. You might find California's trends interesting
I throw this out because we are the largest state and have been more or less reliably Democratic in national elections for over a decade.

http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/ror/reg_stats_02_10_05.pdf

Both the Democratic and Republican parties have been losing voters for a decade. The biggest gain is in Declined to State (our term for independents) - 17.9% as of February 2005.

The Republicans now have majorities in 37 of our 58 counties, as conservatives flock away from the urban counties.
