Calling the corporate media's "we want more Deep Throats" bluff
Here's an email I just sent to the NBC "Today Show" and to "Meet the Press".

If they respond, I'll sure let you know. But I won't hold my breath in the meantime.
-----------------

To Tim Russert and Tom Brokaw:

This morning, I turned on TV briefly (to catch the weather report, since we really need rain here in Tennessee) and I heard the two of you discussing the self-outing of "Deep Throat" yesterday. At the end of your on-air discussion, you said, "If there's another Deep Throat out there, give us a call, won't you. We're waiting for your call."

Yeah, bullshit. For the past eight months, thousands of people have been sending you information on the 2004 stolen election and you've been ignoring it like a burning herpes sore on your anus when your wife asks you why you just can't sit still. So here's one more attempt to call your bluff. How about contacting Clint Curtis and Sherole Eaton, both of whom have very important stories to tell about the 2004 election theft, and neither of whom is hiding anything (including their identities).

Clint Curtis has testified under oath numerous times and has taken a polygraph test (which he passed) saying that he was hired by Tom Feeney (now a Republican Congressman from Florida and the chief beneficiary of Tom DeLay's largess) to create a software program to hack electronic voting machines (and throw the elections) in south Florida. Sherole Eaton has been fired as an elections official in Ohio after going public with an affidavit saying that a Triad employee (another electronic voting equipment vendor) had illegally tampered with the vote tabulating equipment in her county (including replacing the hard drive) just before the sham recount occurred there. Once again, neither of these brave Americans have hidden their identities or their stories. But they may as well have, for all the attention that you and the rest of the corporate media has given their stories since they went public.

So don't fool yourselves, because you certainly are not fooling us. There are no more Woodwards and Bernsteins left in the corporate media, only patriotism-deficient reporters competing to out-trivialize "Access Hollywood" on the evening (non) news. If you had an ounce of journalistic curiosity or patriotic relevance left, you would write Clint Curtis immediately (his email is above) and arrange an on-camera interview tomorrow. Or you would contact Bob Fitrakis with the Columbus Free Press or Brad Friedman with BradBlog (whose email addresses are also listed above) to conduct an interview with Ms. Eaton -- I am sure they would be happy to arrange it right away. If you don't do those things, stop kidding yourself that you are American journalists in the Woodward/Bernstein tradition any more than the "hot military stud" whose presence in OUR White House press corps was another quickly forgotten and barely covered story. Your self-imposed journalistic castration says more about your fear of, or fawning flirtatiousness with, this illegitimate regime which has captured our country than anything that you and your bloated cohorts have revealed in quite some time.

"Deep Throat, call us -- we're waiting." Waiting for what -- to put Clint and Sherole on indefinite hold, where they can listen to Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" played ad nauseum until the shuttle service to Gitmo comes to pick them up. Shame on you folks -- your on-camera hubris is only matched by your irrelevance these days.

So get in touch with Clint and Sherole or stop pretending you do anything of value for this country. Hurry along now, there must be another celebrity somewhere doing something else nauseating enough to keep us distracted while our votes are stolen and our democracy is smothered under a Paris Hilton-stained pillow.

If you're what passes for journalists these days, we don't need no steenkin' journalists. At least not ones who cash GE checks.

Most assuredly,

Fly by night

49. I actually think a "burning herpes sore" and an "anus" in the same ...
sentence tends to fire up a letter and get it recognized. Seriously, though, this letter rocks. The brash colloquialism really gives voice to the frustration that rational thinking people feel with these "news" shows. And when you get right down to it, it makes no difference what words we use to describe it because our frustration is lost on these corporate whores. They read these letters and chuckle to themselves. They know full well that most of America will still tune into "Joey" and "Desperate Housewives" regardless of whether they report election fraud or runaway bridal hijinks. I say fuck the TV. We just had a yard sale where we sold pretty much everything unnecessary. Our TV, DVD player, and VCR recently joined that list. We are TV free and I have never felt better.

52. "TV free and never felt better" - the demo?
How about organising a demonstration where people come and burn their TV sets and stinking rotten newspapers that refuse to cover the story?

Write your own coverage, take your own pictures and post the story on Indymedia, DU, etc.

Ultimately, the sidestream media will have to surrender or go bust in the face of a movement producing coverage that is a whole lot more informative and entertaining than the garbage they call news.

17. I have mostly quit writing to these ...people...
but you inspired me so here goes:

Dear Journalists (benefit of the doubt there, for sure);

We 60 million or so Americans that voted to remove an incurious, untalented man and his cadre of dangerous associates from office in 2004 find precious little objective analysis from mainstream (corporate) media outlets these days.

The "irregularities" of the reported vote tabulation in the November 2004 election (and those of 2002 and 2000) are fascinating reading for any journalist. Try it sometime. In fact, please take five minutes of your valuable time to read your fellow journalist, Bob Koehler's fascinating and moving "discovery" at his web site www.commonwonders.com. The Tribune Media Services has inexplicably failed to grasp the importance of his columns and failed to distribute them through syndication. Please read all three articles he has written since his attendance at the Nashville conference on the Vote in April. His eloquent words and common sense observations are nearly the sole source in the corporate media on what is likely the biggest news story in American History. They are also being suppressed by the Tribune Media Services...Why?

Jim Lampley here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/theblog/archive/2005/05/to-byron-york-and-other-o.html is another deep throat crying out to be heard. He is easy to get ahold of, so no excuse not to.

I ask you to join these courageous voices in helping the country learn who really won in November 2004 and the threat electronic voting presents to our ability to choose our governing authority.

I also want to make sure you have the information from this site:
http://hamburgsteak.sandwich.net/mirrors/EyeOnOhio/#FuzzyMath
In your quiver of arrows should you ever get real about investigative journalism in the 21st century. A tremendous amount of hours went into the presentation of this data and it is certainly a primer for anyone seriously interested in investigating the issue further.

With BushCo at 43% approval and tanking, the Downing Street Memo proving fore-knowledge of an illegal war and lies to the entire world, and a few brave conservatives sounding the impeachment drum http://www.chroniclesmagazine.org/cgi-bin/roberts.cgi, the Theft of a National election in 2000, 2002, and 2004 seems to have some importance and relevance to anybody calling themselves investigative journalists.

This president is illegitimate, and we want our democracy back.

27. Give them Hell
Pat Buchanan has become the official bash Deep Throat spokesperson. I wouldn't be surprised if Buchanon lives at NBC or has a cot in a side room and they just wake him up and switch him on.

Buchanan is sticking to the Don't talk about the facts - Just bash the messenger strategy that has served many RWers all too well. He has repeatedly called W. Mark Felt a "snake." So I think it bears mentioning that people who break into buildings and plant bugging devices to thwart the democratic process are the people that Buchanan is shilling for.

But of course Pat Buchanan runs himself for President every 4 years (in spite of the fact that he has been given decades of free airtime by NBC and other MSM entities -- FEC rules?!). Buchanan admitted that the votes he received in south Florida in 2000 were not his and his name is synonymous with election fraud. Now he shills for the Watergate burglars.

35. You're the second person to freak out at the word "anus". As for me ...
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 09:22 AM by Fly by night
... I expect that it's likely only an intern read my letter to begin with and I hope she/he got a good laugh. Since the phrase in which the infamous "anus" word appeared was one of many where I directly attacked NBC's credibility and the journalistic "stones" (certainly don't want to use the dreaded word "testicles" here) of Brokaw and Russert, I gave them plenty of opportunity to throw the letter away.

But I also gave them the names, email addresses and contacts for two American whistle-blowers who so far have been completely ignored by our corporate media. And the subject line of my email to them listed both names prominently. So maybe they got the information before their eyes were blinded (and their hearts hardened) by the anatomical reference. (Of course, anyone in the corporate media who can't take criticism is a flaccid and contagious asshole anyway.)

But hey, one's man's anus is another man's rose garden. So why don't you show us how to write a letter addressing the same issues that won't be thrown away. Better yet, why don't you show us how to wake up our corporate media and to call them on their self-congratulatory nonsense about "Deep Throat" while maintaining their attention.

Best yet, why don't you get your news media in Norway to cover our 2004 election theft more thoroughly than our own media. So far, our work here in Tennessee has made the news around the US and even in England, Germany, Ireland and Italy. So show us how to get our letters read and our concerns acted on in the halls of GE media.

And we'll save the next lesson in satirical criticism and "calling a 'shovel' a 'shovel'" (mustn't use the offensive word 'spade' here or -- heaven forbid -- you might stop reading) for another time. Thanks.

Close to perfect tone between laughter and outrage. I'm sure you felt better after sending that fucker off. Since the 2004 election sham, writing letters to the powers-that-be has been very beneficial for me. It sure beats paying a psychiatrist. I agree as well with the previous post regarding the importance of the internet these days. Without these collected cyber-voices, my hope for the survival of our democracy would be murky at best, for there is precious little investigative journalism being done in print or on TV. Good work man! I look forward to reading your next missive.

46. They're also ignoring all the Deep Throats ...

... who have been talking about the PNAC/neocon/Iraq war scandal, the WMD lies, the Downing Street memo, etc.

Compare Nixon's Watergate break-in to Bush's Iraq WMD lies and the neocon's premeditated (since at least 1996) attack on Iraq, which has killed over 1,600 Americans plus an estimated 100,000+ Iraqi civilians and will ultimately take more than half a trillion dollars (total estimated war cost) of the American people's money from the US treasury.

Compare the seriousness of those two crimes, and then compare the amount of attention the mainstream media has given to the two.

I can only come to one conclusion: Something is very, very wrong in America today.

51. "Where's the outrage?"
Heh, although I wouldn't use the Herpes-on-your-anus metaphor, I found this a breath of fresh air.

When I was interviewed about the 2004 election fraud on local radio in Dublin North-East (www.nearfm.ie) last week, one of the first questions the interviewer asked was:
"Where's the outrage?"
"It's there in the American grassroots," I replied.
And here it is, plain to see.

While I personally prefer the polite approach, I cannot exclude the possibility that it will ultimately be those of the colourful metaphors who "inspire" these good-for-nothings to do their job as if they had some pride in the journalistic profession.

Hope you've all seen my take on the relationship between blogs and old media in the following post:

Here, I permitted myself to use slightly harsh language - "The /traditional media/ screwed up ... " - because that was the term used by the writer I was replying to. And I'm glad the magazine had the good sporting sense to pick up the gauntlet.

I support Bernie's suggestion that anybody who admires the basic sentiment of his letter but is afraid he lost them with offensive language please write your own, polite letter:

53. Thanks, Paddy, and thanks for mentioning the Nashville conference ...
... on Irish radio last week. If you will PM me with your mailing address, I will get you the two CD set of the 16 hours of plenary session audio from that conference. I expect you will really enjoy both the facts and the passion expressed by the researchers and activists at the conference.

54. My email to Messrs Russert & Brokaw
Dear Mr. Russert and Mr. Brokaw,

I hear that you recently both appeared on a TV program expressing the hope that another "Deep Throat" would emerge from this current administration and give you a call. What a joke! After the pitiful toadyism of the media towards the current administration and the media's lack of integrity in going after the obvious propaganda and the blatant "disassembling" (that means lying according to GWB) on the circumstances surrounding 911, the Iraqi WMD situation and the real reason for the war on Iraq, the thought that a modern day "Deep Throat" would get the time of day from any of the bought and paid for tools in the corporate media in the US today is laughable.

You already have a whistle blower in Sibel Edmonds ( www.justacitizen.org ), the former FBI translator who has reported what amounts to criminal and/or treasonous behavior on the part of her FBI superiors, US politicians and senior government agency personnel, and what have you in the corporate media done with her attempts to bring attention to these matters? You have done absolutely SQUAT is what you have done. Instead it is up to the "alternative" media to report on Ms. Edmond's courageous attempts to throw a roadblock in the way of the Bush administration's plans to silence critics and leave the American public in the dark as to the malfeasance of high public officials. See, for example, http://tomflocco.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=109

Here's another question. What resources have you two gentlemen given to investigating and reporting on the Downing Street Minutes, the leaked document from the UK showing beyond a shadow of doubt that Bush and Blair collaborated to fix the evidence in order to justify a pre-planned invasion of Iraq? ( See: www.downingstreetmemo.com ) The thought that you are sitting by the phone just waiting for a call from "deep throat" so you can spring into action and report on the deepest darkest secrets of the Bush administration for the edification of your audience is beyond laughable. I am left to assume it helps you sleep better at night to pretend to yourseves you are real journalists and objective seekers after the truth.

Thanks to the Internet, the bloggers and "alternative" (i.e. real) media are doing and end run around corporate media's attempts to control the flow of information to the public. The public is becoming increasingly aware as to how they have been hornswoggled over the years by the corporately controlled press and media and now the cracks and holes in the information damn are getting wider by the minute, and the damn is bulging dangerously outwards as the pressure continues to build.

When the information damn finally does break, there are going to be an awful lot of pissed off Americans who will know who the real patriots are and who were the tools doing their damndest to assist in pulling the wool over their eyes.

Kind regards and best wishes
xxxxx

56. Great letter!! With so many Deep Throats available to the ...
... co-conspiratorial media, you'd think they could create an entirely new "reality-based" series. They could call it "Desperate Patriots" or "Democracy Survivors".

Come on folks, let's see more letters from all of you to "little Russ" and that prominent non-member of the Greatest generation, Mr. Brokaw.
