Voting machine paper backups necessary, Ensign tells panel
Republicans like to lie about Nevada's election. Over half of the population voted on machines with no paper trails.

WASHINGTON -- Just as customers can obtain receipts from automated teller machines and gasoline pumps, voters should be able to see paper confirming their votes in elections, Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., told a Senate panel on Tuesday.

Even though Congress has given states about $3 billion since 2002 to purchase new voting equipment, states still are not required to show voters hard copies of their ballots.

Ensign sees that as a flaw that must be corrected.

"There's nothing wrong -- if we're supplying the money -- to require that that money be spent in a way that requires a paper backup," Ensign told the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration.

Ensign estimated the addition of paper backup would increase the cost of a new voting machine by about 25 percent.

2. Ensign has a VIVA bill -- mandates VVPR
he tried it in 2004 and 2005, he got nowhere.

This is what Tom Delay took out of HAVA before HAVA was voted on.

5. Didn't he get the GOP memo?
Honestly, if he's pushing for election integrity, I TOTALLY applaude him.

I can't believe we have sunk so low that standing up for "one vote, one vote" requires courage.
