This American Center for Voting Rights is really getting under my skin
It's a complicated tale, but basically - this organization magically appeared with a bunch of right wing shills after the election and was chosen by congress to investigate the voting fraud 04 (something like that)... and they make up all these vote fraud accusations that are against Democrats and having nothing to do with the real vote fraud issues.

So why the heck would someone do that? It's like this.. suppose you're a casual observer as most people are, and you're asking someone "What's with all this voter fraud I keep hearing about? I hear there was voter intimidation and computer hacking."

Then, you're friendly neighborhood right-wing BS artist can say, "Well, look, we've got a panel of experts, hired by the US Congress investigating this - and what they've uncovered is far different from what you're saying.. they've uncovered..." bleh bleh bleh.

So Mr. John Doe is convinced that congress and the administration is doing a great job and the left wingers are just a bunch of tin-foil hat wearing Oliver Stoned conspiracy theorists.

You know?

Anyhow, the nitty-gritty takes some reading but it's described in detail by Brad Freidman of the bradblog - and it's worth at least a casual glance:

1. Remember the fundamental task of the magician...
... who needs you to look at his right hand so you don't notice what the other one is doing.... This is about creating new rules that benefit the status quo, or improve on what the `pugs already have.

It's definitely an astroturf organization, and one just has to consider them in that light with regard to all their actions, i.e., be vigilant and suspicious about everything they do and recommend.

2. They're claiming martians are from Jupiter.
They know they stole it and that Tom Noe, Jeb Bush and the rest are in deep crap especially with the karma backlash. They know there's no getting out of it. So in defiance, they sit there and re-shape reality to report what they want the world to hear.

"You see the 2004 election was destroyed by voter fraud, and voters committed so much fraud it could very well have tipped the election to Bush which is a criminal offense. Voter fraud must be outlawed, full photo IDs mandated in all states."

Look at my hand over here and ignore this hand...see!!! That way we can keep getting away with electoral fraud with our little players behind the scene manipulating totals....Oh by the way, they don't even need a raise this time. We'll just put them in the backroom.

That's the sadly only reason they had to come up with a fake voting rights institute to investigate 2004 (and whitewash whatever they can get a hold of!)

3. My reaction to voter ID
Is... "Yeah okay fine.. you got it".. and go back to the real details.

I don't know, that's my strategy - but it works. If they're jumping up and down demanding something that's not so bad, say "Ok - fine, no problem, we'll do that.. back to the real problems."
