What to say to this: "We've never unseated a war time president"
<This is brought up often by Bushbots, or other apologists, for the second Bush election theft. (From a post I made here: )>
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3977361#3983307
Subject: FACT: Two war-time Presidents UNSEATED THEMSELVES!

1) Truman chose not to run again because of the growing unpopularity of the Koren War.

2) LBJ chose not to run again because of the growing unpopularity of the Vietnam War.

So let's compare George W's not-so-excellent-adventure in Iraq (during the campaign):
1) The Fallujah disaster.

2) The Abu Ghraib prison torture scandal

3) The American death toll passed 1000; AND the British Medical Journal announced that over 100,000 Iraqi's had died at the hands of the coalition (mostly innocent women and children) - many times more than the iraqi insurgents/terrorists had killed

4) Finally, Bush's war approval rating (what caused the previous two presidents mentioned above to not run again) had dropped so much, and so fast, that Cheney was desperately scrambling all over the country basically telling voters that "if Kerry is elected, Bin Laden will come to your house and kill you!" (a quote from either Margaret Carlson or Eleanor Clift).
--------------------------

So, considering all of this, GW should've been the first "war time president" NOT to be re-elected since the unpopular complications were much worse than the two previous presidents above, who had the sense not to run again.

But, we all know why this didn't happen, don't we?

BECAUSE BUSH STOLE THE ELECTION!

2. I'd say: It was an invasion, not a war. And Bush was never elected
president, although he does quite a bit of sitting.

3. I'd say something about a pre-emptive war and being lied into war
I would say that no President has gotten us into a pre-emptive war by lying to the American people and Congress by fixing the facts around their policy.

4. When the war itself was a mistake, and our Pres lied to get us into it
and then set policies that led to the detainment and torture of hundreds of people .... how can we leave him in office? In good conscience, we can't.

7. There's always a first time for everything.

Before Clinton, we never impeached a president for an extra-marital affair, but that didn't stop them. :eyes:

Seriously, the stupidest argument against doing something is "we've never done it before."

8. Bush is getting the results he has wanted all along....
...there is now way he would step down, aside or even back. Dubya is in "full steam ahead and damn the torpedoes" mode.

14. This is exactly what I was going to say.
There is no "War" - this is BushCo's idea of an ongoing election campaign, which has evolved into a neverending raison d'etre for malevolent political hack/power-mongers.

And now it's their sole example of the "Worldwide War on Terra." ("Terra" is, I'm convinced, the actual word Bush is using... He is, after all, making war on this planet, but not on terror.)

13. Right for $800! That's it.
We did unseat a sitting president during "pre-emptive war time" and they stole it. They will pay, it will be ugly, and we will prevail.
