The NC Executive Director of Elections was on the board of directors of the Election Center until just quite recently!
Here a newspaper in Raleigh, NC (our capital) did a small article on our NC state election officials going to Hollywood -
half-way down the page under the article titled: 'Floater' nearly sinks 'super precinct' bill
Machine politics
Members of a group that wants the state to require voting machines that produce a paper record are questioning a conference trip planned by two state Board of Elections employees.
The Election Center conference in Beverly Hills, Calif., will have three events either sponsored or co-sponsored by one of the major voting machine companies -- Diebold, ES&S or Sequoia.
Joyce McCloy of Winston-Salem, who is leading a group that is pushing the legislature to require the machines with paper records, says the event sponsorship shows that the Election Center is too close to voting machine manufacturers....

http://tinyurl.com/cm7jx*Note- the Election Center website lists NC Election Chief Gary Bartlett as a member of their Board of Directors still. Perhaps they have a computer "glitch" preventing them from updating that info.
Question - exactly how much money did the Election Center accept from voting machine companies in 2003, when their tax return indicates the group is sitting on nearly a $million in cash?
Note- the conference is being held in Hollywood, that should be emphasized more.
Even with the deficits, I can tell you it was brave of the N&O to run this, because they have to deal with these Raleigh folks every day. Few papers have covered this issue.
