Election 2006 could be set for record levels of fraud
Just thinking here, but people all across the spectrum are less and less happy with **. Fitz might go after a number of people surrounding ** due to the Plame investigations. If those investigations REALLY make ** and Cheney look bad, they are not going to want to risk losing the Hill to the Dems in the next election cycle and therefore risk impeachment. My guess is that we are going to see more shocking "upsets" of the Chambliss/Cleland sort.

So the question now, people, is: "What are we gonna do about it?"

Can we head off the election fruad at the pass? (Note: More states have gone over to the Diebold side in recent months. Do we just hope we have enough states where elections still go untampered that we can retake the Hill? Does anyone have an analysis on whether this could be done?) And if not can we prove it fast enough after the election and get enough people on the ground to recognize the vote results have been tampered with to finally hold the junta accountable for first playing with the elections, and then for everything else they have done?

Honestly, folks... what are we going to do?

1. Make them prove it is the open fair election we are promised.
May be some good people will take tazers into the booth with them.

2. They would offer reams of paper as proof.. that would still be a lie.
I agree.. we need hand counted paper ballots as opposed to Diebold. (Lucky for me I live in a tiny town so we have hand counted paper ones.)

9. EXACTLY the constitution demands open fair elections and provides
for recounts. If you (or they) can't provide that they should get the fuck out of the election business. Diebold provides millions of paper trails for ATMs every day. They can prove the bank records can't they?

13. Still, where is the process for recourse?
The constitution says it, but what channels do we have for requesting it or having the cause prosecuted?

5. Bush may not be worried at all!
Why Bush Can't Answer Cindy
By Marjorie Cohn
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

"Why didn't Bush simply invite Cindy in for tea when she arrived in Crawford? In a brief, personal meeting with Cindy, Bush could have defused a situation that has become a profound embarrassment for him, and could derail his political agenda.

Bush didn't talk with Cindy because he can't answer her question. There is no answer to Cindy's question. There is no noble cause that Cindy's son died fighting for. And Bush knows it."

If Bush knows that enough of the system is fraudulent they why should he worry about protesters, casualties or poll numbers. By the end of his term he will have secured the Supreme Court and if the elections are rigged, then his agenda will proceed uninterrupted. He may not even be breaking a sweat.

A depressing thought.

11. Here is the scary thought aWoL believes the shit he is talking.
His 'reality' is so fragile that even talking to
one morning mother who asks
one simple question
would shatter his fragile 'reality'.
Can we afford to have a pResident who is that delicate?

8. Try Citizen-Supervised Exit Polls & Parallel Elections
1. Citizen-Supervised Exit Polls: publicly vetted polling models, polls conducted to 3 standard deviations concentrating on Federal elections where e-voting is employed, and using USCountVotes' election database they are developing. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=203&topic_id=309182

2. Parallel elections in key Senate and House races where e-voting is employed and high response rates expected.

Employ these tactics and fraud becomes an unacceptable option.

10. That is a very cool idea, but will people turn their noses up because
of $ issues? (Of course, in my book fairness in elections counts for more than the cost... but not everyone feels the same way.)

14. I hope it has been. It should have been going on since 2000. But I see the
threads about how to take back the Hill in '06 and I despair that so many people (DUers, no less) discount election theft or think that super voter turnout will nullify it.

15. I, for one, have been working locally with reform groups.
We are talking to the legislature about optical scanning security issues and we are planning an audit so we have something to show them.

16. It begins with your neighborhood
Basically, we fight locally and support organizations that get results.

1.) Get rid of DREs (There are too many ways of manipulating electronic data easily)
2.) Voter Verifiable Paper Ballots
3.) Mandatory Audits

17. Entrap them.

If you are in an area where reform just isn't going to happen, start asking yourself this -- how can I catch them in the act? How can I collect evidence against the fraudsters, perhaps even entice them into a trap? (Of course, keep yourself out of harm's way, legally.)

It is much easier to do so from within the system, so get into the system -- even a low-level poll worker gets to see things that may be useful. There are also a number of things to be done from the outside in this respect, like putting up ballot questions that can serve as another statistic to compare the partisan vote with.
