Former DNC Chair Shills for Diebold. Says Paper Trail Not Necessary

Diebold (elect Bush) Chairman Wally O’Dell called former DNC Chairman Joe Andrew (1999-2001) and said come on board. What did loyal Democrat Joe say, “Well , why not!” Shilling for Diebold, a former DNC Chair, defies description! Iam at a loss for words.

Diebold hires top Dem for PR blitz

Ian Hoffman | August 20

Inside Bay Area - With a phone call and a retainer, Diebold CEO Walden O'Dell has launched former Democratic National Committee chairman Joe Andrew on a 50-state ambassadorship for electronic voting.

O'Dell said he ``wanted to reframe some of the issues,'' Andrew said.
His first stop: California, the nation's largest market for voting machines and the place where Diebold's fortunes as the largest supplier of electronic-voting machines in the nation could be made or broken.

``Even if you have tremendous success every place else,'' said Andrew, ``if you can't sell technology in California, you're in trouble.''

Joe Andrew on paper trails for electronic voting at WV speech:

The “speaker” is Joe Andrew, former DNC Chariman 1999-2001, now hired by Diebold to push their product.

<snip>

“In the end, though, the speaker (Andrew) wound up condemning voting-machine paper trails, which is where he lost me.”

2. PA: Pittsburgh Trib Columnist Peels Bark off of fake Republican Election

Hats off to Dimitri Vassilaros of the Pittsburgh Tribune. He blows away the fake Republican election fraud group and does it with no mercy. This is a great column to forward people. Check out the whole piece at the Pittsburg Tribune

'Study' is political fraud]
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/opinion/columnists/vassilaros/s_360812.html

By Dimitri Vassilaros
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Monday, August 8, 2005
The supposedly nonpartisan American Center for Voting Rights -- which purports to expose voter fraud -- is a fraud.
The organization's 368-page study "Vote Fraud, Intimidation & Suppression in the 2004 Presidential Election," which was released last week, indicated that Democrats were the instigators in every case from Alabama to Wisconsin -- except two.
It also said that the two complaints regarding Republicans had no merit.

The "findings" about Democrat wrongdoing are not surprising considering that the three public faces of the nonpartisan group are very partisan Republican operatives -- including one who claims to be a sounding board for senior White House adviser Karl Rove.

More disturbing than blatant partisanship in the guise of objectivity is that the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania shamelessly cites the study's findings to claim Philadelphia is No. 1 in election fraud. More disturbing still is that the committee claims it knew virtually nothing about the ACVR and yet stands by its decision to parrot its assertions.
"Quite frankly, I do not know who did the report," said Eileen Melvin, state GOP chair.

<snip>

Mark F. (Thor) Hearne II, the ACVR legislative fund counsel, and board member Brian A. Lunde signed off on the study.
Mr. Hearne, counsel to the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign in 2004, said, "Our intention is not to have a partisan document. Let the chips fall where they may."

Mr. Lunde, who had worked for Democrat candidates, presumably is the nonpartisan organization's counterbalance to Hearne.
"These are not Republican facts or Democrat facts," Lunde said of the study. "These are just the facts as they happen. That's why we call them as we see them. We wanted to take the partisanship out."
Lunde was the national executive director of Democrats for Bush.

It was the Republicans who first bandied the term "coup d'etat" to describe the 2000 presidential election. Since then, many have turned the tables and labeled Bush's victory a coup. But how much of this is merely political rhetoric?

- John Dee, COUP2K

How much, indeed.

I’m posting this as a wake-up call. I see a lot of Democrats, Progressives, Centrists and Moderates engaged in a serious bout of self-delusion. They believe, (quite earnestly), that by learning how to ‘frame the issue’ and by getting voters to the polls, they can defeat the Republican machine.

I see it differently. I see a lot of energy going to waste.

The issue, the only issue, is whether or not your vote is being counted fairly. It’s not about ‘Security Moms’ or ‘Family Values’ or ‘Social Security Reform’ or ‘gay marriage’. That is because all of these issues are meaningless once the ballots are cast. And if your ballot is cast digitally, it’s just a number that can be changed with a password and a few keystrokes, and voila, another ‘close-call’ election.

4. WA: Saying no to Vote-by-Mail, Snohomish Co. Cites Security of Ballots

There are no panaceas. How ever you cast your vote, the ballot handling, tabulation, and reporting process are all sources of error and mischief. Snohomish County is the site of a landmark lawsuit by voting rights advocate Paul Lehto & John Wells demanding to have Sequoia Voting Systems code available for inspection..

County Council vote will protect our future votes: Snohomish County WA says NO to Vote by Mail

Three cheers for Snohomish County Councilmen Gary Nelson, John Koster and Jeff Sax for rejecting the recommendation of County Auditor Bob Terwilliger to make Snohomish one of the next jurisdictions in Washington to adopt vote-by-mail for all future elections. These men have taken the time to study the evidence and reports from people who know something about vote-by-mail and its history.

People have lost faith in Washington's elections system. And while vote-by-mail is popular with the voters, and easier on county auditors, it is fraught with possibilities for fraud that can only further undermine people's perceptions of electoral fairness.

We need look no further south than the 2004 fiasco in King County to see how sloppiness and dishonesty can swing a close election, whether it is for governor or a seat on the school board.

The National Commission on Election Reform, chaired by former presidents Gerald R. Ford and Jimmy Carter, warned in 2001 that voter fraud schemes from the past are even more likely now. According to the commission's report, "opportunities to commit such frauds are actually growing because of the trend toward more permissive absentee voting.

5. Philippines: Young Officers Accuse Brass of Election Fraud for Boss

You couldn’t write a better novel. Junior Philippines officers issue anonymous statements condemning the military brass for supporting an illuminate regime through election fraud.

YOUng dared: Come out in the open

http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=politics02_aug23_2005

August 23, 2005

Military leaders yesterday challenged a shadowy group to come out in the open instead of issuing damaging statements against the Armed Forces and the Arroyo administration.

Armed Forces spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jose Honrado dared the Young Officers’ Union new generation (YOUng) to prove their accusations on the military’s alleged involvement in election fraud.

Four generals have been tagged by YOUng as involved in an alleged plot to rig last year’s elections. Honrado said these were serious, unverified allegations against the four generals.

Renegade groups like YOUng continue to undermine the investigation on the alleged fraud and the AFP by continuously hurling serious unverified accusations against the four, Honrado said in a statement.

“Let the inspector general and the fact-finding board do their job and give the AFP a chance to finish their investigation,” he added.

Honrado also reiterated the military’s call to junior officers, who may have knowledge on alleged election fraud, to give their testimony to investigators. “They (junior officers) should not follow the lead of the so-called YOUng, as the media is not the proper forum for this matter.”

6. John Conyers's Call to Action
An important call to action has been made by Congressman Conyers on his blog today:

"What Happened Last Fall?
Paul Krugman Does It Again
A Call to Action -- Moving Forward to 2006

Congressman Conyers writes as follows:

"Republicans find themselves with plunging poll numbers and an uncertain electoral landscape in 2006. Failure for them in their drive to keep control of the House of Representatives, and one party rule in Washington, means that, if reelected, I will become Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Henry Waxman will become Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, Louise Slaughter will become Chair of the Rules Committee, Charlie Rangel will Chair the Ways and Means Committee, and Nancy Pelosi will be the first woman to be Speaker of the House. That means accountability for this Administration with a stiff dose of the truth.

"Make no mistake about it. Desperate times will lead to desperate tactics and partisans supporting Republican candidates will pull out every dirty trick in the book to stop us from bringing checks and balances back to the federal government. What do we do about it?

"First, we must be vigilant and we must use every legal means at our disposal to stop the pre and post election manipulations. Second, we must push for legislation at the state and federal level to reform our elections, including providing a voter verified paper ballot.

"More immediately, however, we must work harder to take back the House and to do so by a large enough margin so that the malfeasance and fraud makes no difference. I want you to start today (the election is just a little more than 14 months away) because they are. Start organizing in your neighborhood and precinct. Join your local democratic party if you haven't already. Talk to your relatives and friends about how much is at stake in 2006. Support progressive and alternative media that help get our message out by spreading the word about your favorite progressive talk radio hosts and stations, and the blogs you read. Support the candidates of your choice by signing up to be a volunteer for their campaigns, for the DCCC, or by making a financial contribution. Write letters to the editor about the lack of accountability in our government for the bad decisions made by this Congress and this Administration.

"In sum, I have a small request: do everything you did for the 2006 election that you did last year in a close Presidential election marred by malfeasance and fraud, and then do more. It is never too soon to start."
