Freeholders to case votes for a ballot box: With technology evolving, county rushes to comply with regulations
Wednesday, August 24, 2005

By ERICA ZARRA
of The Montclair Times

Montclair voting activist Katherine Joyce said the Sequoia Advantage is not in the 2002 National Association of State Election Directors’ catalog of certified machines, which was last updated in July.

Joyce said she worries that if next year’s federal elections are conducted on non-2002-certified equipment, then results could be vulnerable to challenges and disqualification.

“There will be a potential catastrophe if an uncertified machine is chosen,” said South Orange resident Richard Janow, a New Jersey Institute of Technology professor who authored a Sequoia certification challenge that was sent to state officials on behalf of Essex County activists, including those from Montclair.

“It’s a national problem that, if not corrected, could lead to a gigantic number of lawsuits and disorder,” Janow said.

He is also concerned that technologically upgrading the estimated 7,000 existing Sequoia machines is infeasible by January 2006.

1. whitewashing more Stalin-style rigged shams again
I'm sure this is a tactic on the order of "Hmm, people think they're fraudulent. Let's give them a rubber stamp that says they work to appease them without actually stopping committing fraud."

8. Roj, Thanks for this info!
This will be very helpful at the state level. I plan to forward this information to the SOTS in CT along with the NASED # for the AutoMARK system which the SOTS office denied existed.

9. denied existed--- what a twerp
Is Sequoia still pushing the Advantage in Ct. ? If not not we can insert some more kick ass into the flow of things---- In Essex County-- in NJ we have utterly stopped the Sequoia Advantge, I doubt Any one in NJ will ever buy another one--

The bad news is the SOE in Essex county now likes the Liberty DRE-- which at least has 2002 certs.
