High-Tech Voting Machine Plans Postponed

UPDATED: 12:56 pm EST January 4, 2006

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is pulling the plug, at least temporarily, on plans to buy high-tech voting machines for the 2006 elections.

She said the finalist among bidders misled the state and did not have proper certification to meet state and federal requirements.

That means Connecticut voters will be using the old, mechanical lever machines this year.

Bysiewicz said she'll contact all voting machines companies across the country and ask them to apply or reapply for the state's business. She said she hopes that the new electronic voting machines will be in place for the 2007 election

SNIP....In a letter to state officials, the Department of Justice said it is willing to "work cooperatively with Connecticut" on achieving full compliance with the federal law.

1. When can we bring back low tech paper and pen?
It cracks me up that people want computers to print out their ballot for them on paper. It may work ... or it may not.
They've had problems with the printers not working or with them jamming...

Here's an idea, fill in your own paper ballot YOURSELF!

What the hell is it with this country and its love of all things electronic.

3. Yep.
My shoes have been uncomfortable all day because the lace-tying machine is out of calibration.
Then the door-opening device wouldn't boot up, so I was late for an appointment...

Good old 'Murka.
