... Bowen mentions the problem of whether the paper trail is being verified by the disabled voter.


This cuts to the heart of DRE problems. The voter will largely ignore a paper trail produce by a DRE. A survey by Lombardo Consulting of Nevada voters in 2004 showed that only 31% of voters actually matched the paper trail to all their touchscreen choices.

I maintain that the DRE may have paper - but if the voter is not verifying the paper then verified voting is a pipedream.

Obviously PBOS voting is 100% verified since we verify our vote in the very act of marking our ballots.


Finally, please note: in New York State, ES&S is showing a full-face DRE that does not facilitate verification from the paper. The voter finalizes their vote by looking a a final tally on the screen; paper is printing out way over to the right of the voter in a way that many voters, such as seniors who need reading glasses, would find nearly impossible to verify.
