1. How About No Vendors at All
No privatization in our elections.

2. The list of vendors has been
crafted and scammed for the unholy three, Diebold, ES&S and Sequoia. Others have bebbn effectively written out of competition by HAVA. It depends how states stand up to the hard sell and bullying. In NY the passive response is typical: bury it in gridlock, fritter away at the legislative details of it all.

Voting machine companies who can't buy the people they guarantee to elect are likely too poor for good reason. Honesty.

3. Some info on ES&S, Diebold, Hart InterCivic
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=E-Voting:_Digital_Democracy_or_a_Cash_Cow_for_Consultants%3F

To boost its chances, Sequoia Voting Systems hired two in-state lobbying firms - a Republican firm with ties to Governor George Pataki and an influential Democratic firm steeped in local politics. Diebold Election Systems hired lobbyists with connections to former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani. Election Systems & Software (ES&S) hired a firm with ties to another former NYC mayor, John Lindsay.

To win the $20 million Cleveland-area e-voting contract, Hart InterCivic hired the former Ohio House majority leader and a former state senator as lobbyists; UniLect retained a former county board of elections chair; and Diebold hired a former state attorney general and secretary of state, according to Associated Press.

4. Thanks Rumpel. Do you know of lobbying firms (or indiv lobbyists) hired
by Sequoia, Hart InterCivic, etc. to work in CA?

5. Hi diva77!

You can look that information up at several sites that I know of.

http://www.sourcewatch.org and http://www.fecinfo.com/ are two of the best.

Most Secretary of State web sites also have a link to registered lobbyists in their states. In my research I've found that Diebold far outspends all other vendors combined in their lobbying efforts.

Also try doing Google searches for terms like Sequoia, voting, spokesperson (or spokesman) and scan the results for names you can Google more information on. I've had much success that way. Just one hint, place the person's full name in "quote" marks like, "Alfie Charles", election, to cut down on false hits.

On Edit: fixed broken link!
