Have you filed an 'amicus curiae' on the Supreme Court case yet?
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 12:57 AM by garybeck
Lynn Landes is taking our fight to the supreme court. we should support her and show the judges that she's not the only one who wants to get rid of these f-ing machines.

Lynn says:

Those who wish to file a friend of the court brief (amicus curiae) should do so by Feb. 24.

for amicus curiae, see See: Supreme Court Rules #37.

See lawsuit at

Also, this case needs publicity... fast. Please contact news media, members of congress, voting rights organizations, etc. Call Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! and ask that they have Lynn on their show. (212) 431-9090 producers@democracynow.org

3. Amicus curiae is not for the purpose you mentioned.
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 01:58 AM by Wilms
The very first thing the text at the link indicates as much.

Rule 37. Brief for an Amicus Curiae

1. An amicus curiae brief that brings to the attention of
the Court relevant matter not already brought to its attention

by the parties may be of considerable help to the Court.
An amicus curiae brief that does not serve this purpose burdens
the Court, and its filing is not favored
.

Perhaps there's something else we might do.

7. Technically, it brings to the Court's attention that you are interested
that may not have already known that.

I know, it's parsing words - but isn't that exactly what we hire lawyers to do?

8. UPDATE from Lynn
I spoke to Lynn and she said that the request for people to file amicus curiae is limited to those who have read her court case and have new information/evidence that would help her case. It is not for everyone to "join as a co-plaintiff."

This is not to discourage people from considering filing. Please read the case, and contact Lynn if you think you have something significant to add.

For everyone else, we can help to spread the word. Please call talk shows and ask them to have Lynn on as a guest.

Gary
