Paper Ballot Bill Among Those that Clear Legislature in Final Hours

By Susan Montoya Bryan/
Associated Press
SANTA FE — Lawmakers approved a flurry of bills in the final hours of the session that ended Thursday, including a measure that would impact voters across the state by requiring all counties to use paper ballot systems.
Voters would fill in spaces on the ballots for the candidates they wanted, then feed ballots into a tabulation machine. Gov. Bill Richardson advocated the system, saying it would help rebuild public confidence in elections.
House Voters and Elections Chairman Edward Sandoval, D-Albuquerque, said the nation was built on the public's right to vote and have those votes count.

4. Hmmm.
A D-Gov in NM who didn't want paper last year. An R-Gov in MD who didn't want paper last year.

This year, they both want paper.

What's got into them...

5. Paper ballots looks good
as long as you can count them ballots by hand, after the election if you choose, but if you have to go before a judge, just to get access to them ballots to do a hand count, then paper ballots doesn't make that much sense. Mandatory and Automatic hand recounts has to be a part of the setup to make this type of paper ballot right.

Automatic, if I have a group that wants to count all the Paper Ballots in a county, whether that county is close in the election or not I should be entitled to do it. My two cents.
