Warren County OH: I met D candidate for OH senate for Warren last night
I briefly told him some of what was known about Warren County on Nov. 2, 2004 and he gave me his card and indicated he wants to know more. I just spoke to him on the phone and he asked me if I really thought there was a smoking gun in Warren and I said yes. The only thing I don't have commited to memory is the exact number of votes that C. Ellen Connaly had that exceeded the Kerry vote in Butler, Warren, Clermont and Hamilton.

He was surprised to hear that OH punchcard ballots unlike Indiana's do not have the precinct codes punched and that ballot rotation requires a header card to trigger the tabulation program to tabulate the ballots correctly. He was also surprised to learn that there is punchcard equipment that can be programmed to machine punch (vote) punch card ballots.

I don't want to get too excited like I did when I got a testing email back from Mike Wilkinson of the Toledo Blade but having someone who is running for state senate in the district where we strongly suspect that a big chunk of the Kerry/Bush vote difference happened being so receptive to what is often portrayed as tinfoil hat paranoia even on DU has got me excited.

Besides running as a D in Warren County requires cojones...

1. God Speed RoseBud -- some of the most useful, general material
I know of is "Myth Breakers for Elected Officials" at Voters Unite -- not as specific and helpful as you can be regarding the specifics of running in Ohio, but it could be a good background packet and it really well-written and comprehensive.

If you go there - don't miss the "Failures Listed by State" and "Handouts"

2. PS autorank and freedomfries Rick Smith D candidate for OH senate also
brought up the Clermont County "moist" ballots. I am going to reprint everything DUers sent to me that I hand delivered to Hackett's office in Aug. '05 and send it to him.

Now if we could only get Hackett a lawyer who may have criminal defendent experience to investigate suspicous SW OH election activities. Now that he's not running he has nothing to lose by being labeled sore loserman

3. Good luck, rosebud! Find out if *he* knows how votes for him
will be counted -- i.e., chain of custody. Once you really think about that, it's pretty hard to continue to ignore the problem. :hi:

4. When I told him the '04 punchcard ballots could be replaced by machine
voted punchcards he brought up the idea of activists putting some type of pencil mark on the back of ballots and then checking to make sure that those ballots were in the ballots after tabulation. Not sure how feasible this is. This guy is very receptive for a pol so any ER DUer especially the math savvy if you want to send him your best stuff that has anything to do with OH, any election or any county he indicated he can use even the most "but I don't understand statistics" facts are useable in future elections.
