Simply put,I think thats that. Heres the chance. Organizing a voter ED program, or some such. The project of the ERD forum, for campaign 2007. Whatcha think? I think we at the ERD might consider a DU ERD organized Push To Novemeber. I gotta go to bed early--
Let me come back and flesh out some ideas.

1. i think we need a protocol for citizen audits. |
|
i know there were some clumsy attempts in '04 at collecting totals on poll tapes, and collecting and posting reports of irregularities. but i think that we need to share the knowledge base of the telltale signs of fraud, and what candidates can do to safeguard votes. for instance- save the walk sheets. these are copies of the voter rolls from each precinct. precinct workers check the list of those that have voted, compare them to their contact info, and make sure they get their voters out. so, that gives you a clue, at least, as to how many votes you should have gotten. it also gives you a count of how many people voted, period. those sheets are usually discarded at the end of the day. but they could be compared to results without a whole lot more work. at least you have an idea of which precincts smell particularly bad.
and we should be watching the primaries closely. small irregularities in primary counts may grow in november. efforts to guard votes can be good voter confidence builders.

2. I was thinking about the media today. And remembered, |
|
there was a time when my partner's docs wouldn't talk to me because they "didn't have a release".
Since I needed to communicate with them, I used to call and say, "you don't need a release to RECEIVE INFORMATION."
So, what about we compile a list of the major paper's readers reps, and we SEND THEM the Daily ERD thread.
So they know that we know that THERE ARE STORIES everyday.
We don't need a "release" to GIVE THEM information. :hi:
I'm fried myself. More in the a.m.
