4. Not to be a wishing to be a spoilsport here. |

But I'm not sure it should be your goal to have the thread at the top of the greatest page every day. If the Election Reform thread is at the top of the Greatest Page every day, even when there is not any particularly interesting or noteworthy news in the thread, then people might start to just ignore it.
If people start to think that the thread is being artifically pushed up the greatest page, so that its ranking does not seem to be based on "merit," I think this might be a legitimate concern.
Just throwing that out there for consideration. Feel free to ignore.

5. I dont think that is the goal, when we stuggle to get 12 votes |
|
when there is a fairly good product to vote for.
But your point does speak to a greater goal, and is something to be taken into consideration.
My cheerleading is an attempt to train ERDers to consider the ERD everyday.

And thank you for saying so.
But as you can tell, the frustration level in the ER, due to the lack of attention voting reform gets from the rest of DU, is the driving force behind getting ER on the Greatest Pages.
Is there any way DU admins can help us put the issue on the front burner? Or do yall feel the issue does not need such attention?

7. Additionally: Some of us have been posting the ERD for over a year. |
|
Giving a group a task, and seeing our group accomplish said task, gives the ERDers a sense of community accomplishment. This is what is VITAL to the Continuation of the ERD.
I will try to parlay that sense of Accomplishment into having more volunteers helping post articles in the Daily thread. WE need some new blood, as folks like Wilms have been posted ERDs for so long, and they are burnt out.
Also, events are moving very fast. Machine problems in Primaries (it is primary season) hacks in Leon Cnty FL and in PA. Make the ERD more important, more times. During these times it is more likely that the ERD will be relevant during a given week. ANd the more ERDs that are relevant, the more they may earn votes.
Skinner: DO I get what you are saying, that the better threads deserve the votes. ANd any artificial inflation of the voting process may....... alienate some folks. My words, not yours. I think this is a valid point. But one of many.

10. It may be that SKinner is concerned about the quality of the ERD |
|
SO we shouldnt recommend the ERD if it sucks. Only if its good. Only if the ERD deserves the recommendations.
SO...................

I started her right after the 2004 election and many dedicated people started helping because they didn't want to see her die.

I'm only doing one day a week at this point, but the thread is one of the most important sources of info. on DU (in my opinion). Election reform is THE issue.

13. I always recommend the ERD, too. |
|
It's a good overview of where we stand. Some are twenty-count, others are of 70-count quality.(by which I mean amount of, and importance of the information contained within.)
While I'm generous with other ER recommendations, I'm still somewhat judicious in making choices. Some "inter-office" posts will make little or no sense to those outside of the forum. And at any rate they can be irrelevant to the issue of election reform itself.
It does build resentment when posts are piled on to the greatest page that are of minimal interest. So being judicious is an important consideration as regards "PR" for the ER forum.
I likewise will not recommend (for the time being) flaming threads. While I hope all can come to voice disagreement with courtesy, and by keeping their focus on the actual issue of reform rather than by manipulation, implication and insult--I've been happy to see how many folks here have well-conducted themselves in recent dust-ups.

15. Well, I still need pointers on where to fish when compiling |
|
the ERD and Wilms has been very patient with me in that respect.
There is so little in our daily lives that brings this bundle of issues to our attention. And it's so basic, so fundamental to the lives we think we want to lead.
I agree that having the thread constantly in the number one position will just train people to ignore it. And, I see no reason why DU as a whole shouldn't spend a few more attention units on our embattled vote. That's the negotiation.

19. I think Bleever might say |
|
I believe we can do it.
It was after midnite (EST) when I went to bed and there were only IIRC 32 votes. SO I get up in the AM-- its my day off, and there are 49 votes!!!! LOL And then demodonkey votes to make it 50......... LOL OMG ! ! SO I thanked him, twice.
A lot of folks sent PMs that might have taken a hour to get around to being answered. Or folks got up in the morning and found PMs asking them to recommend. IT was a pretty good ERD too. Who did the ERD on Thursday anyway, thats wilms right?
Just kidding...........
