was about voting:

Election officials must get act together

Ohio and Kentucky are among 30 states that have received federal warning letters about their failure to comply with a portion of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA)

It's a small but pointed reminder that more than 5 years after the controversy-riddled 2000 election spurred America to reform election laws and procedures, there's still plenty to be done to ensure the integrity and fairness of our voting systems.

In itself, the noncompliance issue raised by the Justice Department isn't a huge deal. The 30 states have failed to sign and execute agreements, required by HAVA, to match the last four digits of registered voters' Social Security numbers against federal records as a way of verifying voters' identities.

Most of the laggard states are in the process of setting up the systems, which in many cases require a link or conversion from driver's license records. Other states are scrambling to set up special machines and procedures for people with disabilities, also required by HAVA.

Blog that you can post comments on:

Take the opportunity to educate the newspaper that failed to fully investigate the Warren County lockdown. His name is Tom and he apparently doesn't like anonymous so use a blogger ID.

Hmm, maybe someone could explain to him why liberals perfer to be anonymous in George Bush'a America.
