Blackwell wins in OH - first time all counties use touch screens or opcans

Blackwell Wins GOP Nod for Ohio Governor
By JULIE CARR SMYTH (Associated Press Writer)
From Associated Press
May 03, 2006 12:07 AM EDT

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell won the GOP nomination for governor Tuesday after campaigning as the best candidate to deliver his party from a year of political scandals and infighting.

The Republicans' woes, along with Ohio's role as the deciding state in the last presidential election, turned the primary into a closely watched barometer of voter dissatisfaction and whether it could lead to political upheaval in November.

<snip>.

It was the first election in which all 88 Ohio counties used either touch-screen electronic voting machines or optically scanned paper ballots.

Some results were delayed after Blackwell told election boards not to release them until all polls had closed. He issued the order after a judge kept a Cleveland polling place open late because it had not opened on time.

3. Polls had blackwell ahead
He was up 12 in Columbus Dispatch poll and up 21 in Cleveland Plain Dealer poll. So...what to conclude?

He didn't need to steal this one. He probably won fair and square.

Now, for the general election...

8. Give the public a false sense of security. He was ahead so no need to
raise alarms now.

when Dems and Independents were 'voted' out of office all together.

4. Maybe this has been asked before but isn't there a conflict of
interest if he is running and also managing the voting process of the state??????

5. That needs to be outlawed in all fifty states.
No election people should be able to run for office for at least three years (preferably 5) after handling an election. AND CERTAINLY NOT WHILE THEY ARE RUNNING THE ELECTION.

9. You are absolutely correct. It's a shame it's such an easy
concept!! I am going to look into Washington States law to see what it says about this.

This would be a good ballot issue.

13. There are plenty of racist Ohio Republicans
who will not vote for Blackwell.

14. But whose votes will be counted for and by Blackwell?
A great wedge issue would be to sow distrust in the "reformer's" election system and what Republicans can do to insure their vote will be counted(or NOT if they stay at home). Works to destroy a major campaign plank and the rigged system. Does someone have a problem with organizing Republicans in those "strongholds" of loyalty?

Now that Blackwell is their only choice.

16. I hate to agree with you on this one, but I do.
And, I've had several people ask me if SHERROD Brown is a Black man. Why, oh why, can't we get over this racial bias?

11. What a surprise.
:eyes:

Blackwell is a useful tool for the reich. Even their vote-trashing machines like him.

15. Polls
A March 30 WSJ poll had Blackwell at 40.6% and Strickland at 46.6%. More recently, an April 25 Rasmussen showed Blackwell at 35% and Strickland at 52%.

Strickland's sizeable lead is growing. Looks like it's going to be hard to explain an election outcome that does not have Strickland as the winner.

18. Oh well, you know those polls....unreliable. When he wins, it will be
called a "stunning upset" just like when Chuck Hagel won, and when Saxby Chambliss beat Max Cleland. Stunning upsets are kinda in the same category as glitches, I think.

17. Did he keep his personal vote tabulator "with 2-way communications
capability to all county tabulators" fired up in his office again, like he had in 2004?

When will Republicans realize their party was stolen (and continues to be) before they stole our country???
