John Bonifaz Submits 7,000 Certified Signatures
Don't quote me on this, but from my personal observation I believe the incumbent used hired signature gatherers. Besides one hired coordinator, all Bonifaz signatures were gathered by unpaid volunteers like you and me. This will be cross-posted in the Massachusetts forum (that backwater of democracy), as well as GDP. Please support and get the word out. The Bonifaz candidacy is for real. Next stop - Worcester - for the party convention.

KEEP ON!

John Bonifaz Submits 7,000 Certified Signatures

- Another 2,000 to be Turned In by June 6 -

BOSTON, MA - John Bonifaz, Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, today submitted approximately 7,000 certified signatures to qualify for the ballot. The signatures were turned in to the Elections Division of the Secretary's office. In addition, another 2,000 certified signatures will be submitted by next Tuesday's deadline. Volunteers for the Bonifaz campaign collected over twice as many signatures (11,000) as required (5,000), with more than 9,600 certified.

"Our campaign is about the people of Massachusetts," said Bonifaz, "and the voters of the Commonwealth - from the Berkshires to the Cape - have made a profound statement in this show of support. They are ready for a different kind of Democrat, one who fights for the citizens and small businesses of Massachusetts."

"I am also extremely thankful to the over 100 volunteers who came together to collect these signatures. We look forward to continuing the momentum of this grassroots campaign into the Massachusetts Democratic Party's convention this weekend."

The first candidate to officially declare his candidacy for Secretary of State, Bonifaz launched his campaign last December. He founded the National Voting Rights Institute in 1994 and defended the Massachusetts Clean Elections Law, passed overwhelmingly by voters in 1998, against a Legislature that turned its back on the voters it represents and refused to fund the law.

For over a decade, Bonifaz has been a powerful voice and dedicated leader working with people throughout Massachusetts and across the country to protect the right to vote, demand a full recount in Ohio, overhaul the nation's campaign finance system and broaden citizen participation in the democratic process.
