Leftist Screens Videos He Says Prove Fraud in Mexico Vote

MEXICO CITY, July 10 — On the morning after his campaign filed a legal challenge to last week’s presidential elections, the leftist candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, stepped up his public campaign against the vote, screening two videos that he said proved the election was flawed.

One video showed what he described as a voter in President Vicente Fox’s home state of Guanajuato illegally stuffing a ballot box in the race for Congress.

The other video, he said, showed that election officials in the state of Querétaro had wrongly given his conservative opponent, Felipe Calderón, 200 more votes than he had actually won at one polling station.

It was not possible to verify the authenticity or content of the videos, or whether the content had any bearing on the race for president. Still, the screening of the videos at a news conference added to Mexico’s strong sense of political uncertainty.

It also offered a glimpse of the kinds of materials that Mr. López Obrador is likely to present in coming weeks as he tries to drum up support for his legal challenge.

in Columbia. Widely believed to have been stolen by the right wing. We all know how THAT has played out over the last 36 years. I hope this doesn't go the same route.

6. Finally a quote in an article on the Mexico fraud that advances

the thought of actually strengthening democracy by removing doubt. It seems like deja vu this last week as the press (especially the AP) has encouraged everyone to move along and consistently called Obrador left wing or left leaning even though he is actually a centrist Mayor of Mexico city. Hopefully the people of Mexico won't tolerate this bullshit like we did.

12. Wow! I never heard that about Kerry using the ES &S machines to oust

What was weird about that post was that they brought up H W in New Hampshire in '88. I recently spoke with a very credible source (former republican) who work high up on the Dole campaign in '88 and he told me the same thing, in fact he found out later and it was what transformed him away from the republican party. 2000 was not the first. It's kind of like reading Zinn's People's History of the United States, or Palast's Best Democracy Money Can Buy-nothing is ever the same again, once you become aware.
