Election officials: Voter results safe
Following grand jury report By Blake Aued | blake.aued@onlineathens.com | Story updated at 11:21 PM on Friday, July 14, 2006
A Clarke County grand jury has raised questions about the security of computerized voting machines, but local elections officials insist the machines are safe.
In a presentment of its findings released Thursday, the grand jury expressed concern about "the overall security of the voting machines, the handling of the voting results, and the verification process used to detect potential voting fraud."
In particular, the presentment said it's possible to tamper with the Diebold voting machines used across Georgia, and criticized the Clarke County Board of Elections employees for losing a CD copy of voting results from the 2004 election.
