A car burglary, reported early Monday morning, initially prompted fears somebody was trying to interfere with today's election.

Sometime between Sunday afternoon and 7:30 a.m. Monday, a car belonging to a county elections "precinct inspector" was broken into and a touch-screen voting machine and related equipment was stolen, according to Candace Grubbs, Butte County clerk-recorder.

District Attorney Mike Ramsey told the Enterprise-Record the initial concern was the theft was related to the election.

The car was parked near West Eighth and Oleander avenues at the time of the theft.

The voting machine looks like computer equipment at first glance, according to Ramsey.

2. Somebody who, by prearrangement, has a friend break in and
"steal" the machine to RIG it, and then return it so it can be used..........

I wouldn't put it past the RW to do such.

3. wouldn't it be nice if the person who stole it
stole it so they could analyze it to find evidence of fraud/fraudulent code, etc.?
i mean of course it's wrong to steal something, but still
