Karl Rove on "vote flipping".
Of all the forms of election fraud, vote flipping is arguably the most powerful because it's a two-fer: your opponent not only loses a vote, but you gain one at the same time. And because it's done electronically, it is less visible and harder to enforce against than disenfranchising people with long lines, caging lists, provisional ballots, and the like.

So it really caught my interest to hear Richard Viguerie, the so-called Godfather of the conservative movement (he pioneered direct-mail and other techniques that culminated in the election of Ronald Reagan), on the Ed Schultz Show. He was commenting on something that Karl Rove had said:

“Karl the other night said that a switch of 77,000 votes would have kept the House and a switch of 3000 votes would have kept the Senate.”

People usually talk about winning elections in terms of motivating voters and getting them to turn out at the polls. Given the recent history of elections in this country, I think Karl let on a little more than he intended.

Here's Karl doing everything he can on election night 2004:

15. I'm in total agreement. They were stealing votes,
...but they just didn't steal ENOUGH of them.

Rove claimed he had "THE math", but he also had a miscalculation with his math!

This is why Election Reform is so important to do NOW and not later. I think that next time they will include further 'adjustments' (vote flipping) in their math to prevent this (Dems winning) from happening again. Plus, whatever new tricks and scams they can come up with.

I mean, they're just not going to start playing fair all of a sudden, ya know?

8. of course he didn't...
i remember when he had a caller claim that 30% of the social security budget was wasted on administrative fees and that privatizing it would make it cheaper. in fact, admin fees for SS are less than 1% while bush's own estimates for privatization admin costs were around 12-15%. good ol ed just said, "well, i didn't know that!" i waited through the rest of the show and he never corrected that HUGE lie.

sorry for the OT rant/

11. He didn't, but
it went by pretty fast in a conversation about how the * administration has betrayed true conservatives, and I think my fraud-dar has remained extra-sensitive despite the passage of time.

9. Based on my knowledge of statistics, I calculate the odds
of machines preferring Republicans over Democrats to be

Zero.

Machines don't have preferences. But their programmers and designers might.

Thanks for the excellent data link.

Several times he has made false statements and no one corrects him. Doesn't he have any research people? He is the most ill-informed talk show host around.

13. Schultz, or "Foghorn Leghorn", as he is known to cringing audiences,
is almost worthless on progressive radio. He doesn't do his homework and can be easily bamboozled by reich-wing callers.
And too often it seems he'd much prefer to be prattling on about huntin' and fishin' and sports.

But to let a slip like THAT go by. Argh!!! I wonder what Randi Rhodes would have done with that kind of admission.
She probably would have had it assigned to a button on her sound board before the next break.

14. Well "switching" is what its all about isn't it?
These guys knew how to plan, they still do, but somebody pulled the franchise, failed to authorize the operation, ran aground of an angry "management." Rove should keep quiet. The Bush can is fighting desperately to simply maintain it's place at the table. Poppy got W $60 million in a month or so before 2000 to run in the primaries. That emptied the room of donors for the others. Now we're looking at pay back time. The folks who forked over $60 million and much more are now saying, have been for a while, knock it off.

As a result, "switching" had little "sway" with the Republicans. It was all free lance this itme.

Why?

Because its their nature.

I'll see your Rove and raise you a caption.

:hi:
