I despise that word (as I rarely even read or use Blogs) as a description for what is quickly becoming a reliable source of information, regular people. I find it amazing that the MSM identifies and writes us off as such things like "conspiracy theorists" or "wacky bloggers", you've heard them, you know what I mean. The truth is, we are nothing more than normal citizens.
However, one thing we do differently here in "conspiracy" land is research and investigate. These are two things that have been all but forgotten in the messy entertainment we call Network news. Look, what all the naysayers claim is that information from sites such as DU are not trustworthy. Would it be fair to say that the process which we put our information through is more vigourous than their own techniques? I've been constantly surprised about how you all rattle ideas and, yes -- even theories, around. Through this process you filter out the trash and by the time an official document is made, it is about as professional as anything else you could find. If those who claim that information collected and analysized on the net is, by nature, invalid, they need to re-evaluate, and perhaps INVESTIGATE sites such as this. They would be surprised to find that we simply don't just spout out "conspiracy theories", but collect and raise important issues.
They may not realize it yet, and perhaps you may not either, but the 'net has created a terrible abomination. An abomination that has the potential to outperform MSM in the quality of news and investigation produced.
Just think, we merely need to focus on a topic, and we have the energies and efforts of thousands who are going to dig into the subject. Because we have members all over the world, the potential for places like DU is tremendous.
Just my early observations while being here at DU, peace.
