Zogby: Urgent moral issues peace, poverty & greed (Dean is right again!)
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 10:42 PM by Carolab
American voters say urgent moral issues are peace, poverty and greed
A new poll released today by Zogby International on the results of last Tuesday’s election shows that American voters think the urgent moral issues facing our country are peace, poverty and greed – and that Catholic voters overwhelmingly think that issues of economic justice are the greatest moral crisis in the United States today.

Dave Robinson, executive director of Pax Christi USA, a national Catholic human rights organization, said that these numbers show that voters, particularly Catholic voters, choose their candidates on a wide range of values, and resist attempts to characterize their political identity in one or two issues.

“Though it’s clear that a portion of the electorate voted solely on issues like abortion and gay marriage, this poll shows that the vast majority of voters, especially Catholic voters, are influenced by a wide range of issues,” said Robinson. “Despite attempts to characterize Catholic political identity in one or two issues, Catholics recognized that there are a broad range of issues that their faith calls them to vote on; issues like economic justice, the war in Iraq, health care and more.”

The Zogby poll shows that when voters were asked to list the moral issue that most affected their vote, the Iraq war topped the list (42%) – more than tripling the number that chose abortion (13%) or gay marriage (9%). Also, when asked to choose the most urgent moral crisis facing the U.S., voters chose ‘greed and materialism’ (33%) and ‘poverty and economic justice’ (31%) twice as often as abortion (16%) and gay marriage (12%).

2. Dean is uncanny. He's downright prophetic at times.
He has a way of cutting through smoke and mirrors and seeing what IS.

3. He is prophetic
Hedda_foil and I noticed that during his campaign. He is often months if not years ahead of others. Also visionary (which kinda goes hand in hand, I think).

Actually, I remember a quote of his. Don't quite remember the question, but his answer was that he decides things and sometimes doesn't know YET why that's what he decided. He also spoke of taking in a lot of various information and letting it percolate a bit (not his term), before coming up with his decisions. Very intuitive.

4. yet all of America, and most of DU, took the republican bait
that it was about "values".

Remember, you can no longer believe ANYTHING the media tells you.

Like "Bush won".

Or "Bush won because of "values"".

Or, well, ANYTHING.

It's over, folks. Never again can we believe a damn thing they tell us.

5. I wonder how much of that 42% was _against_ the Iraq War?
If the exit polls were "right" for all these things, maybe they might turn out to be more right about the actual election??

6. you know what really makes me sick .....
Is that the GOP told their lie to cheer their evangelical base.

And it worked, the media reported what the GOP told them to report, and everybody bought it.

All the red-state fundie assholes went "Prayz Jeeeesus, we are a POWER in this land!"

Turns out it was a complete crock of shit but do you think any of those yahoos are ever gonna see this news?

It just makes me sick.

From this point on, DUers, WE CANNOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THE MEDIA TELLS US.

WE FELL FOR THIS SHIT AND WE SHOULDN'T HAVE
