For those who would like to know how it might have been done
Chuck Herrin has laid out a step-by-step theoretical approach to how it might have been done:

"I am going to show you, step by step and with screenshots, how an attack against our election system could very easily steal a Statewide or even a National election without leaving a trace. This attack would be easy to carry out, difficult to detect, and exert enormous influence on the results, leaving the humble voter coldly left out of the decision-making process."

5. I voted, I think.... for who I wanted to vote
I sent this to my rep in Congress, not that it will do a tinkers damn of difference.

Still she is a demo, so maybe, just maybe she will realize, why we need to go back to HAND COUNTS and paper and pencil

11. An incredible and easy-to-follow demonstration of just how easy it is
Nominated.

It's so simple, even a Bozo could do it!

Even George Bush could do it!

13. Sure, if the tabulators were hooked to the internet
Edited on Mon Nov-15-04 03:54 AM by noserotonin
It would be extremely easy to do this, like the article shows. A little more difficult if the machines were only accessible by modem. You would have to either know the phone number or randomly dial numbers until you found one. (This is why Bev is asking who for lists of people who know the modem dial-in number.)

Even worse, how many times have you downloaded a security patch from Microsoft in the last year fix a "remote exploit"? I'm pretty sure the central tabulators are unpatched and so have these holes open.

(Medical devices that run Windows are never patched since it require lots more testing. Why would Diebold machines be any different?)

So it would be trivial to break into one of these machines, if you could find a way to connect to it.

But blackhats (another term for less-ethical hackers) like to brag about their exploits. And we haven't heard anyone bragging about "0wning" the U.S. election.

Right?

I guess we'll know when Osama wins 51% of the vote in 2006.

14. I've forwarded the link for this article to an engineer
who has been looking into the BBV irregularities -- the tech types are coming out of the woodwork on this issue.
