A Few Committed Citizens Made a Hella Difference

Gathering to Save Our DemcracyLast night, Bernie Ellis and Deborah Narrigan of Tennessee’s Gathering to Save Our Democracy, were interviewed for a full hour by Dan Ashby on Election Defense Alliance Radio.

As Dan pointed out, it was “three years of determined organizing” which “culminated June 6 with the signing into law of the Tennessee Voter Confidence Act to require paper ballots and post-election audits in a state that has been dominated by some of the worst DRE machines in the nation.”

As a reminder, Bernie and the folks from Gathering to Save Our Democracy organized the very first National Reform Conference in Nashville in 2005, and it was there that many election integrity activists from all over the country met for the first time. In the interview, Bernie, along with Deborah, who is the legislative coordinator for Gathering, tell the fascinating and uplifting story of the end of paperless DRE voting in Tennessee.

Bernie also coined the phrase, “Tin foil is the new black,” which perfectly and succinctly describes the group’s long legislative journey.
