Detailed "How to Hack the Vote" Instructions, With Screenshots! |
|
Hi All,
I just got off the phone with Andy Stephenson and Bev Harris, and they expressed gratitude for all of your support. I'm working with them on the technical side to try and help get our Democracy back on track.
For those of you who haven't seen it, I have posted a detailed walkthrough of exactly how "difficult" (?) it would be to Hack one of Diebold's GEMS software installations at www.chuckherrin.com/hackthevote.htm . I include step-by-step instructions, screenshots, and timestamped audit logs, as well as off-site links to the software so you can try it yourself! It's so easy, I hate to even call it "Hacking".
Andy and Bev both said "It rocks". I'd love for you to see it, so stop by and check it out. And if you can, please help support Bev and Andy as they fight for our Democracy - visit www.blackboxvoting.org/donate.html if you are financially able to help. Every dollar counts.
Keep fighting the good fight!

that the main database that holds all of the votes requires you to enter a password in GEMS, yet in Excel you have instant access to tampering with the entire vote!

4. so why did we let them hack the vote and not hack it ourselves? |
|
that, to me, is the biggest question.

8. firstly because we are not crooks. |
|
secondly. a lot of inside information was needed to pull this off and in the short time needed.

17. excuse me, but would you like to rephrase that, |
|
asshole?
so we're suddenly morally superior to the republicans? why, because as henry clay said, we'd rather be right than president?
to clarify my statement, why couldn't we have simply hacked and undone what they did? or shut the machines down and REALLY freaked out the republicans? brought the whole g.d. thing to a grinding halt, if for no other reason than to show them they can't get away with it.

11. I suspect that it's because of the insider aspect mentioned before |
|
We all remember Diebold's "promise" to deliver Ohio's electoral votes. Being a professional "White Hat" hacker, it is very easy for me to imagine a War Room of 6-10 people executing a planned attack.
That's one common way Red Teams work.

My, oh my, oh my! This is interesting and distressing all at the same time. I never realized just how simple it would be to 'doctor' the results. I knew it was possible, but not how easy. Thanks Chuck for going to the trouble to 'spell it out', as it were, for those of us who are not particularly computer literate, so we can fully understand just how dangerous our current election system is!
Why doesn't the media pick up on this, and why aren't more people jumping up and down screaming about paper ballots. It seems that most people are unaware of what Chuck has shown us, and are just so darned trusting!

If it is so easy (and this looks convincing enough) I would have expected a lot of hackers to screw around with the election if only just for fun, or even to make the point that it can be done. I'm not seeing any reports that this might have happened, not even in the Blogosphere.
So... is there a good explanation for why this wouldn't have happened?

"Come one, come all (hackers, that is)."
And maybe it was like the "shoot-out" at the OK Corral"-- He who hacks last, WINS.
