Someone is asking for resources to be allocated. It doesn't get better than that. :)

1. Whoa, that got right past me.
It's on 4 and too late to rec, so I'm going to rec this one for some visibility (hopefully). That's all I can do right now, as I'm wrestling with my dialup, working on the news.

2. Thank you! I just got my machine back and have to put this
stone tablet out of its misery. RIP, faithful ancient PowerBook. :)

3. Awwww - I'm sorry about the PowerBook
I get very attached to things that have worked well for me, and my old laptop is about ready to be put out of its misery as well.

4. I want to suggest something but am not sure where it belongs, so
it will go here for now.

Is there some way 1) to organize adopting election protection groups in the vulnerable swing states and 2) to organize promoting the indy journalists who are working this beat via some kind of "adoption" as well and 3) to try to get them on shows like Smiley's between now and the election while the topic is hot?

6. I had ears on red alert and never heard of any such effort in 2004.
There are groups that have been working very hard since then. We need to find a concerted way to back them up, imho.

8. In 04 there were election observers?? (not sure if name is correct). The SOS schd training
for them in the same manner as poll workers, but, with different rules.

What do you have in mind, when you say adopt?

7. For God's sake -- STOP S.3212
This is a horrible bill. A true DISASTER for Pennsylvania and other states that have a lot of paperless DREs now.

S.3212 won't affect the November election, but if it passes you can look for future elections to be "verified" by a black box checking on another black box. For years or decades to come.

Here is VerifiedVoting's alert on the bill:

Per the Senate Rules Committee website, people can also submit written testimony as follows:
Individuals and organizations that wish to submit a statement for the hearing record are requested to submit a cover letter on stationery that lists the individual/organization’s name, address, phone, and email. The letter should note the subject and date of the hearing (S.3212, "Bipartisan Electronic Voting Reform Act of 2008", July 30, 2008 and request that it and any additional documents be included in the hearing record. The cover letter and documents should be emailed to record@rules.senate.gov or faxed to (202) 224-1912. Please contact the Chief Clerk, Lynden Armstrong, at 202-224-7078 with any questions.

DO IT!
