Palm Beach Post Staff Report
Monday, September 08, 2008
In the wake of missing ballot problems in the primary election, the county's Republican Party and the League of Women Voters today asked Secretary of State Kurt Browning to assign a team from his office to remain in Palm Beach County through the Nov. 4 election.
The request from party chair Sid Dinerstein and league president Pamela Goodman comes as Supervisor of Elections Arthur Anderson has drawn criticism for lost ballots.
The county canvassing board could not determine the winner in the tight race between incumbent Circuit Judge Richard Wennet and challenger William Abramson. More than 102,000 people voted in the race on Aug. 26, but only 99,045 ballots turned up during a recount.
Abramson led by 17 votes after the first count, but trailed Wennet by 60 in the second.
