Who knows Republicans that crossed over to vote against the Shrub?
I know a few, my grandfather and his new wife, both Christian conservative voters, who felt that Bush lied about Iraq, destabilized the region, drove up the national debt and that was enough for them.

They live in Charlotte, NC, home of Billy Graham, and attend church on the former grounds that used to house Jim and Tammy Fae Baker.

Now if they could cross-over don't you think there must have been a lot more of Republicans who also did?

While working the polls in Florida, I of course socialized a lot.
I met many Republicans who told me that they would never vote for him again and in fact were very sorry they voted for him at all.

Hey, I'm from Sarasota!
I posted in this thread earlier that my mom is a minister. She lives in Sarasota with the rest of my family :( Anyhow, she told me that so many people in the congregation were voting for Kerry that she was amazed. Lifelong Dems were voting against Bush...and alot of them!

I was shocked to see that Sarasota went Republican. They usually do, but I guess I was just hoping for reality to sink in with these people this year.

My wife (who converted thanks to Iraq), and my best friend from childhood (due to Iraq and the rampant spending).

I have talked to a few others as well but have yet to meet a Dem who switched and voted for shrub in 04.

I understand in Florida, almost all the Dems voted for shrub. At least that's what the magic mystery box said.

to buy Kerry signs. Most of them were furious about the deficit and never believed in a million years that they would have to admit that the Democrats were better with the budget. It was Bush's crony capitalism that set them off.

I still don't believe the final tally was so high for Bush here. Exit polls had it 51-49 and yet somehow Bush ended up with 56%.

56. Iive in NC too!
I talked with a couple of co-workers about this issue, most of the others are wing nuts.

One of them told me that most of her neighbors had Kerry yard signs and when they got stolen, becuase that seemed to happen a lot, they would make their own signs that said "You stole the 2000 election, You stole my Kerry sign, but you can't steal my vote!" But even she admits that she thinks that they succeeded in taking that away too!

What is going on in this country?

13. Here in Pinellas County, Florida, lots did
Mostly Republican county, we voted for Gore last time, had a virtual tie this time; Bush won by a just a teensy margin.

My MoveOn PAC leader was a Republican who voted almost straight Democratic like me (neither of us voted for Bubba for sheriff).

Some Republicans here in central/south Florida are completely distraught by this administration.

She's a lifelong Republican, but can't stand * because she's one of the "reality-based" community and what she sees the administration doing freaks the living daylights out of her. She says lots of her friends and neighbors supported Kerry as well, though I didn't ask how many or what their party affiliation was.

I don't know one Dem who voted for * (and I know lots of libs), yet that apparently happened in far greater numbers than Repubs voting Dem. My question is, where are these gangs of cross-party voting Dems? Methinks they only exist in some lines of code.

A very small town. The week before the elections, the owner of our local newspaper posted on half of the front page his reasons for not supporting * this year. He has voted for him in the last Presidential election as well as the two previous gubernatorial elections.
So I would count him as a crossover.
By the way, there was also the resignation of the editor in the same issue.:)

34. I know someone
Life-long republican, too. Very disappointed in this administration. I told him all about the irregularities in the votes, too. He didn't believe it, at first, but has since come back to learn more and more. Keeps turning shades of gray and green while he digests it all. He believes it and he hates it, but also wants his former party back, not the wingnut-twisted parody it's become. We're not the only ones who want our country back, that's for sure. I find that rather promising and more than a bit comforting. :)

I live in a very conservative area of metro Detroit. I had a couple family members and one friend that I know definitely crossed over for this one. Kerry took the county too, which Gore did not carry in 2000. I was VERY surprised. My Kerry/President bumper sticker was one of few. However, since November 2 I've noticed a lot of anti-bush stickers popping up.

40. I did.

I've been registered Republican for over 20 years.

That doesn't mean I like been taken for a sucker, lied to, and used. Bush is no conservative. A real conservative doesn't spend with wild abandon, doesn't recklessly invade foreign nations, doesn't threaten to alter the constitution to win an election, doesn't feed his cronies from the public till, doesn't claim to "have proof" of something when in fact he has only supositions, doesn't break faith with long time allies, and doesn't mortgage the future to pay for the present.

Bush is a crook and a liar, and a bigger threat to his party than Nixon. Worse, he is a serious threat to our nation, and the world at large.

So I decided not to vote for him, even though I am a republican.

I'm not sure whether she was a registered Repuke or not because she was a Democrat for years in NY before she relocated to the Sunshine State, but she voted for His Fraudulency in 2000 and changed her mind this time (because I inundated her with reading materials to deprogram her).

43. My friend boss, a faithful republican
voted for Kerry due to the economy and the war.

After reading this thread I am more convinced than ever that Florida was rigged.

I have never seen so many bumper stickers or signs as this year. Yet we are to believe that Bush got received 100% of the republican vote, most of the independents and about 20% of the democrats.

Bush supposedly received 40.000 more votes in Pinellas County than in 2000.

Amazing in a county were the population has only increased by 0.5% since 2000 (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/12/12103.html)

And now there is news that Bush did not win the hispanic vote!

Something is not right

All voted for Bush in 2000. I think the only reason why was because they believed they would have less taxes. I got my boyfriend to see the light and his sisters came around too (Michael Moore helped). They all live in Hawaii.

PS. This is the guy who said on 60 minutes last Sunday that Richard Clarke & George Tenet bear the most responsibility for 9/11. I thought "anonymous" was on OUR side because Franken had him on his show. Now he crucifies Richard Clarke!

55. somehow I always thought of most teachers as being democrats
or maybe it was just the ones I liked, that I remember in that light.

Well folks, if all of us know people who crossed over to vote against what clearly is the madness of king george revisited then how did we loose this election?

I think that our country is clearly under some kind of mass hypnosis at the hands of something that is clearly evil. The sheeple sleep like an infinite darkness hangs over their souls, It's like a deep fog that only allows them to see through a very narrow tunnel into reality.

They only seemed to be concerned when they see something going on that challenges their tiny belief system.

They get irate if you burn a flag, but not a village.

They will take their wallets out and write checks to challenge a woman's right to choose but they turn deaf ears on stories about the deformed babies born from effects of our using depleted uranium in ammunition.

They will whip their congregations into a voting frenzy if someone dares to challenge the sanctity of marriage, but ignore the moral crisis of a nation of peoples dehumanized and labeled as terrorists when they dare to fight to defend their own families and homes.

After all why should they care about what should happen in another country. They are in their comfort zones, If they don't like the news they have entertainment channels like the Fox News Channel.

But here at DU, we are wide awake, we have our own version of shock and awe, but it is driven by the sickness of seeing what the rest of our countrymen seem to be able to ignore.

Our shock and awe comes from seeing basic human rights stripped away across the globe in the name of the war on global terrorism.

It comes from watching our own constitutional rights being trampled by legislation like the Patriot act.

We sit in awe as the media takes their stories almost word for word from press releases of the corporations and government agencies that hand feed them.

The real problem with our media is that they fear that if they don't keep certain information OFF THE RECORD, then they will loose the tiny bit of access they still have left. That could lead to them having to resort to actual acts of journalism...

Research, Investigations and Interviews, OH MY!
