Bev Harris in Volusia County Florida right now...
She was in a 2hr meeting with the Supervisor of Elections this morning along with members of a new group, the Florida Fair Elections Coalition.

After the meeting, our founder came back to the office with bags of trash from the SOE because they found tapes from the op-scan machines thrown away that do not match the posted election results. Take a wild guess at who's favor the *extra* votes were in?

They went back to another meeting to show what was found. I'll post more when I know more. If you haven't already, please check out www.blackboxvoting.org and donate if you can. Bev is fantastic!

And if she uncovers enough fraud to turn the election they should just hand it to her automatically over the next ten years.

Of course she deserves a MacArthur!

But, I understand the MacArthur foundation doesn't solicit nominations from just anyone. I think they have a pool of Especially-Talented-People-Who-Know to make the nominations, though I'm not sure of the process.

You are so freakin' smart, you deserve a MacArthur!

13. Sorry, should have clarified that a bit...
they are the tallies that the op-scan machines print at the end of the day. They look like register receipt tapes. They print all results for all elections in that precinct.

Basically, the precinct end results as printed by each Precinct Clerk at the end of the day did not match up with the posted precinct results by a lot more than could be considered some sort of weird, yet correctable and forgivable, error.

There could possibly be an explanation for this, but we don't know of one at this point and the SOE, Deanie Lowe, is not cooperative in the slightest sense of the word.

who keep the signed copies of the tapes in our houses have to keep them for TWO YEARS. That's the third of four copies we make.

PING! Someone tell Bev if she can't find the originals, IMO the judges there should have them... if they run their system like we do. Diff state, though.

29. Yes
all over the place--a little here, a little there, enough not to force recounts, etc.

But they needed a lot to get the "mandate", cuz the turnout was so heavy. A few hundred to a thousand per county all over the map and bingo you've got a 3.6 million margin.

56. Exactly, skimming is the word
much harder to notice or prove when it's across the board.

But the results of this election are too consistent. A plus 5, minus 5 in each direction reverses things quiet nicely.

73. That's one of the operative words right there -- skimming
The other being 'padding'. As in, skimming Kerry's votes and padding Junior's. Alittle bit there, a wee bit there. It all adds up.

I wonder how it feels to be J*b and have to risk everything to clean up after his older brother. Again. As if GW would ever do that for J*b. Never in this life.

152. It is a new group
There were several members of the Democratic base in Volusia Co. that didn't want to shut down the office and then try to regroup in 2006 before the Governor's election. They wanted to keep the momentum going instead. It is really just local people who are extremely dedicated to taking back our country beginning in our county. It has really just formed in the last week and the charter is currently being laid out. I'll be working on a website and will post a link when its ready for unveiling.

Is that the way we are to prove voter fraud by rummaging in garbage and finding papers of which we know not a thing so far, except the titillation of a question of guess who benifitted? I think not. I think Bev Harris better provide something better than that to those who contribute to her garbage sifting operation with an ad hoc group of disgruntled Democrats

.......until such a time as all of this has been sorted and matched with the posted and certified results and the actions of the county elections officials have been explained.

For reasons of confidentiality I can't comment on why I believe this happened beyond a doubt, but I do.

Perhaps one day the entire 'behind the scenes' account of 'The Adventures of Bev and Andy' will be told but for now I'll just say that this fits in nicely. :)

To elections officials, Bev is the rabbit from "Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail" reincarnated.

Beneath that humble, grandmotherly exterior......trust me on this, you don't want to know what she's capable of!

Just be glad that she is, and that she's on our side. :toast:

121. But the deadlines are coming up fast. If there is physical proof here, it
is just what is needed to convince those who call all of this "conspiracy theory." Consequently, if it really is proof, it needs to come out NOW.

Is this REALLY definitive proof? Or is it something that is simply suspicious? There is a big difference, obviously. I want this to be true, but am concerned it may not meet the tests for proof.

66. Dumpster diving is a way of life for some
As a truck mechanic I once took up a job working for a garbage company. The Drivers were some pretty smart folks in many ways. They would find some real treasures just about everyday (but man was it a nasty job otherwise). Be careful what you throw away, it might end up in someone else's hand who might want it more than you ever did.

39. This is gonna take some time people....
I think we are all being a little impatient here. If this were a trial, we would be in the Discovery phase. Nothing more. I would love to see all of this stuff hit the press and make everyone take notice, but it won't happen yet.

Bev is collecting evidence, hordes of it...and pretty soon she will create a front so thick that you could not cut it with a flamethrower.

Keep in mind, we only need to prove fraud, yes fraud, in one district. Or at least have credible evidence that could be a foundation for a trial. If this happens, the people in that district will get outraged and demand that something be done about it. After that, district, after district will demand an investigation and the lawsuits will fly...and then the criminal investigations with follow.

Patience people. Patience.

55. Well...
I just looked it up and Velusia County does use precinct based counts of the optical scan ballots. From what I understand, these tapes recovered from the trash are the printouts created at the precinct before or immediately after the votes were transmitted to the central Board of Elections office. If someone were going into the GEMS central tabulator software and changing those numbers then you wouldn't expect them to agree with the precinct printouts. It certainly jives with some of the thoughts I've had about how this could happen.

It really could be the break we've been looking for...

74. http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0310/S00211.htm

"DELAND, Fla., Nov. 11 - Something very strange happened on election night to Deborah Tannenbaum, a Democratic Party official in Volusia County. At 10 p.m., she called the county elections department and learned that Al Gore was leading George W. Bush 83,000 votes to 62,000. But when she checked the county's Web site for an update half an hour later, she found a startling development: Gore's count had dropped by 16,000 votes, while an obscure Socialist candidate had picked up 10,000--all because of a single precinct with only 600 voters."
- Washington Post Sunday , November 12, 2000 ; Page A22

Yes. Something very strange happened in Volusia County on election night November 2000, the night that first Gore won Florida, then Bush, and then as everybody can so well remember there was a tie.

Something strange indeed. But what exactly? In the above report ( click for full version), written days after the election, hotshot Washington Post reporter Dana Milbank goes on to attribute the strange 16,022 negative vote tally from Volusia's precinct 216 to an apparently innocent cause.

"…. faulty 'memory cards' in the machines caused the 16,000-vote disappearance on election night. The glitch was soon fixed," he wrote.

But thanks to recent investigations into Black Box Voting by Washington State writer Bev Harris we now know this explanation is not correct. In fact it is not even in the ballpark.

According to recently discovered internal Diebold Election Systems memos, Global Election Systems' (which was later purchased by Diebold) own technical staff were also stumped by the events in Volusia County/

In Chapter 11 of her new book "Black Box Voting In the 21st Century" released early today in .PDF format at Blackboxvoting.com and here at Scoop Ms Harris observes.

"If you strip away the partisan rancor over the 2000 election, you are left with the undeniable fact that a presidential candidate conceded the election to his opponent based on a second card that mysteriously appears, subtracts 16,022 votes, then just as mysteriously disappears."
Working in parallel with Ms Harris Scoop has also been inquiring into the events on election night in Volusia county. Much of the material that follows is similar to that which appears in Chapter 11 of her book.

The starting point in this shocking discovery about election 2000 came in a series of internal Diebold ES technical support memos.

The following is an abbreviated version of the exchange concerning the peculiar events in Volusia county. For the purposes of research the exchange is included in full as an Appendix to this report (APPENDIX TWO). The discussion took place in early 2001 as an audit was underway in Volusia county into the events.

**********
(NOTE: The names below each extract link to the full text of the emails in the appendices below.)

I need some answers! Our department is being audited by the County. I have been waiting for someone to give me an explanation as to why Precinct 216 gave Al Gore a minus 16022 when it was uploaded. Will someone please explain this so that I have the information to give the auditor instead of standing here "looking dumb".
Lana Hires – Volusia County Florida - January 17, 2001 8:07 AM

My understanding is that the card was not corrupt after (or before) upload. They fixed the problem by clearing the precinct and re-uploading the same card. So neither of these explainations washes. That's not to say I have any idea what actually happened, its just not either of those…

The problem is its going to be very hard to collect enough data to really know what happened. The card isn't corrupt so we can't post-mortem it (its not mort).

Ken Clark – Diebold ES R&D Manager – January 18, 2001 1:41 PM

- the negative numbers on media display occurred when Lana attempted to reupload a card or duplicate card. Sophia and Tab may be able to shed some light here, keeping in mind that the boogie man may me reading our mail. Do we know how this could occur?

140. this has been an ongoing drama for months, covered here at DU
the weirdest thing was that an incredibly large nos of internal Diebold memos and emails were dumped on the internet and then downloaded by various groups and people over the world.

Student groups at various colleges had them at their web sites; Diebold threatened the schools with lawsuits if the adms didn't shut down the web sites. I think Swarthmore was the first school up and threated.

Has/will anyone write a book about this???

105. Once certified you have to challenge in court
That was the problem in 2000. Harris certified the vote count pending the results of oversees absentee ballots. She rejected manual recounts in four Florida counties because they were not justified according to Harris and thus she did not accept the results. Gore then had to challenge the certification in court, and we all know what happend after that.

you speaking of the founder of Florida Fair Elections Coalition, or are you speaking of Bev?

Also, do you know if these discarded tapes had any date/time indication?

I know Bev had posted recently that she had planned on making her findings available to the public as they occur, but she changed that policy because it made officials more reluctant to speak with her. Is she o.k. with you posting this information? No offense, but I just want to make sure you're aware of the issue.

Thanks again. It's great to see some Florida Dems are going after these guys.

115. This is exactly the kind of thing that concerns me most...
Paper records discarded...
Misplaced ballot boxes...
Who knows what other shenanigans are going on!

Our effort can't succeed unless all existing paper records are preserved! What is being done to secure them?

Thank God for Bev Harris. She seems to know where to go and what to look for at all times. Go Bev!

Anyone that would throw out documentation, any documentation, that pertains to election results SHOULD BE PROSECUTED.

On the other hand, this might be planted disinformation. I'm sure that Bev will proceed with caution.

108. 2000 Volusia 53/45 for Dem vs. 2004 Volusia 50.5/49.9
I hope someone checks my math, but it appears that while Gore's margin over Bush in Volusia 2000 was about 8%, Kerry's margin in Volusia 2004 was only about 1.65%.

This means that Kerry margin was about 6.4% lower than Gore's.

If Kerry had the same 8% margin as Gore, he would have had about another 15,000 votes.

Just something to ponder....

122. The Next Big Thing?
I thought this was very interesting. This is an excerpt from a Maureen Farrell article entitled The Next Big Thing.

Scandal: Though the scandals bubbling beneath the surface of this administration do not yet rise to Presidential penis level, they nevertheless involve matters of national security (Plamegate), the rule of law (Abu Ghraib), threats to democracy (Votergate) and war and peace (Yellowcakegate). "At some point in the next four years there will be a great scandal that will make Watergate look like a fraternity prank. All the elements are already in place," Salon.com recently asserted. " has never been so beautifully set up than now for a cataclysmic, Nixon-like fall," Mark Morford wrote.

124. Here is a report from Volusia County
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 06:49 PM by God_bush_n_cheney
After a day of furious auditing Bev, Andy and Kathleen of Black Box Voting have found discrepant results in Volusia county. At this time we have had an attorny LOCK DOWN all poll tapes, memory cartridges and the GEMS central tabulator. The discrepant results were concentrated in mainly minority areas. We are currently going through trash obtained early this morning by Bev and Kathleen Wynne via a FOIA request. At one point they were threatened with arrest but avoided it narrowly (Bev will do a full report later). Black Box Voting will be issuing a press release later today. This is it folks...the first crack in Florida.

125. COLLIER COUNTY, FL: Software glitch blamed for delay in election results
Sorry, if this has been posted somewhere, before...I forgot about it, but it showed up, right after the "election".

***********************************************

Software glitch blamed for delay in election results

http://www.naplesnews.com/npdn/news/article/0,2071,NPDN_14940_3303306,00.html

By CATHY ZOLLO
November 4, 2004

The touchscreen voting machines were fine in Collier County's general
election.

It was the software on a separate computer that is used for tabulating
results that was home to the problem.

That problem delayed election results in the county by about three
hours Tuesday night.

The glitch went something like this:

Elections officials pulled voting information off the ES&S IVotronic
machines and fed it into the Dell computer where it would be made into
a report about voting results.

The Dell had been used to go through some dry runs ahead of balloting
on Tuesday, but those numbers were supposed to be deleted from the
machine, or "zeroed out." But a file containing numbers that had not
been deleted was added to the vote totals, throwing off the results.

The problem showed up when officials compared the first report off the
Dell with another report pulled together from the same sources of
information but on a different computer.

"It made my numbers look weird, and I said OK stop, we're not going to
pump out a bad report," said Gary Beauchamp, deputy assistant
supervisor of elections for Collier County.

144. Get Ready!
As the cracks begin to appear in the scandal, expect a few people to get nervous and go on the attack just like DeLay's thugs did to shut down the recount in 2000.

We need to be prepared to do two things:

1. Support the vote counters through donations, volunteering and pressure on the media.

2. Be prepared to bang on some doors to make sure they don't drop the curtain on this entire project by sending in their goons the way they did last time.

If there's a widespread vote-skimming fraud this is likely to be a long and ugly battle. How's your stomach?

159. Bev Harris -VS- Volusia - Round 2?
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 11:43 PM by CementDude
(I posted this as a reply to another thread, but this may be a better place to ask)

I've been following the BBV site and was surprised this latest development hasn't been posted there yet. Regardless, I have a couple of questions upon which I hope some can shed some light:

1) I understand Bev Harris has been to Volusia after the 2000 fiasco because of a similar issue:

http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0310/S00211.htm

quote - "…. faulty 'memory cards' in the machines caused the 16,000-vote disappearance on election night. The glitch was soon fixed,"

At the time it was Precinct 216. Now the problem seems to be "next door" in Precint 215 and may very well be blamed on a "faulty" memory card, as was the excuse in 2000. So my question is, since we're dealing with the same cast of characters over at Valusia, are we (mostly Bev) assuming that they (Volusia's BOE) didn't learn their 2000 lesson and are continuing to commit fraud? If so, why didn't Bev Harris' 2000 fraud audit produce enough evidence to convict someone?

2) To the issue of all these "polling tapes" being found in the trash, with apparently different versions or "sets" of the same data, I found this article:

http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/News/Politics/LocalGov/03AreaHEAD02LOPOL110504.htm

quote - "Post-election 2004 in Volusia County churned into its second day Thursday, with a 228,000-vote recount and concerns about possible voter fraud."

Seems Volusia already did a machine recount of *all* ballots (228,000+ ballots - all precincts) because of a disputed local election. Would this recount produce a new set of tapes? If so, how does this factor into Bev's recent account of what she found.

-- OK, another question --

3) Are Bev Harris's efforts better served at this "scene of the crime" which was a fruitless effort in 2000, or perhaps are her services more needed in Ohio where there is a more likely chance to overturn the electoral votes?

Thanks all!

Vote fraud investigators visit Volusia

http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/News/Politics/Headlines/03PoliticsPOL03111704.htm

Staff Report

Last update: November 17, 2004

For those who thought the 2004 election was over: Surprise.

Representatives of a Seattle-based organization investigating possible
election fraud visited the Volusia County elections department Tuesday
after being provided reprints of voting machine records instead of
originals.

The activist group, Black Box Voting, is conducting investigations of
voting records throughout the United States, said Bev Harris, its
executive director. Volusia County is its first Florida stop.

"We just look at it as an audit," she said Tuesday afternoon as a
British documentary crew filmed officials securing records for review
today.
