of a next generation voting system.
We can't just run from electronic voting, assuming that it CANNOT ever be secure. We have more than enough brainpower in this country to create secure electronic voting, maybe using a system very similar in concept to what has been demonstrated here.
What we saw in this election is a technical architecture so vulnerable, so poorly designed, that it doesn't even begin to provide the security that we take for granted every time we make an ATM transaction or purchase something over the Internet(s). The question is, why is it so vulnerable? By design, perhaps?
Imagine being able to vote from home! Imagine being able to verify your votes at will. The technical geniuses of this country, and the open source movement, can make it happen.
