ES&S Employee BLEW the Whistle...
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 01:02 PM by Orsino
Indianapolis TV had the story. Uncertified software on voting machines, plus a cover-up.

Edited to emphasize past tense, and to lower heart rates everywhere.

7. Ha - Thanks. Somebody needs to analyze that software! We know we
have needed a whistle blower to get anywhere with this story. It is the optical scan machines that has the weird numbers associated with it instead of Diebold....very interesting.

;)

8. Listen, I'm sure you meant well,
But it was completely irresponsible to post that article with that header and no disclaimer, and to toy with our on edge emotions like that. It was a good read, but just a taddddddd outdated.

11. When ES&S are still in business?
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 01:00 PM by Orsino
How outdated is that?

Johnson County continued to deal with the company.

18. ES&S machines caused problems in 15 Indiana counties ...
... but this problem was NOT related to the Presidential race. See:
http://www.indystar.com/articles/1/191246-7751-098.html

On the other hand, the machines that caused the Dem staight-tickets to be counted as Libertarian were provided by Fidlar Election Co.

12. "zero the counters"

"But Wendy Orange didn't withhold that information. Her husband, Doug Orange, used to work for ES&S as Johnson County's project manager. He was fired after refusing a superior's order to zero the counters on voting machines at the courthouse instead of the polls. “I felt those procedures were illegal,” said Orange."

Very interesting. Were any counters tampered with in this election?

17. I'm not sure but...
... it sounds to me like the PROCESS that was being used was unorthodox and unsafe. Physical security is one part of the "protection process" to prevent tampering and/or miscalibration.

If he zeroes them at the courthouse, the machines are not yet at their final location. So instead of being zeroed right before use (i.e., as close to voting as possible), leaving little opportunity for miscalibration or purposeful tampering, the machines are zeroed and THEN moved, jostled, carried around, and not under direct scrutiny long before they are being used to vote.

This introduces an unsecure gray area, where the zeroing can be undone by accident or purpose. It's not just wrong, it's common sense NOT to do things this way.

The guy was right to stick to his guns. In software testing, the system is always reset/calibrated/zeroed out right before the test, to make sure nothing screwy or unexpected is interfering with the process -- you don't say, "Oh, well, I rebooted the computer last week, so the system's memory is clean."

For whatever reason, ES&S was introducing the possibility of error into the process, breaking industry-standard testing/implementation procedure.

Either they were being stupid (didn't consider the possibilities), irresponsible (trying to save time/money by sacrificing security), or purposefully allowing for fraud.

14. Well...
Assuming she hasn't suffered an 'accident' in a small plane crash or unfortunate car accident -- maybe someone should get a hold of her and ask just what was illegal about the software they installed.

20. Please write to them and thank them!
This little station has done some great reporting of late.

http://www.wishtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1647886&nav=0Ra7JXq2
was a another goodie.

I know we've all been furiously writing to various newspapers etc. to complain about why they're not covering the election fraud and I really think that has had some effect. There have been more mainstream media articles about voting irregularities today than there have been in the last week to 10 days!

But these journalists are basically just like you and me and I'm sure they've gotten plenty of hate mail. And it's tiring. So a little thanking them for their courage and time and efforts might go a long way and help our cause too. And it lets the editors know that the public likes this kind of reporting (which they know affects their bottom line)!

Btw, I got some very nice letters back from the people at WiredNews, after I complained to them about older articles on the election. They're all right!
