Could Gephardt have swung Missouri? |
|
I was a big fan of the Edwards pick, but looking back with 20/20, I wonder...
If Gephardt could have swung Missouri and Iowa (wouldn't have taken much there), we'd be on the way to the Whitehouse right now with, I believe, 270 Electoral votes. I don't think that Edwards on the ticket helped win a single state that Kerry wouldn't have won anyway. I'd be happier with Edwards as VP than Gephardt, but I'd also be happier if we were in the White House than not.
Just thinking. I'm sure it's been discussed before.

and Bob Graham might have won Florida. I'd like to know what people think John Edwards contributed to the campaign?

4. I think he contributed energy to the campaign |
|
and I thought the press would follow it. You gotta admit Kerry could be kinda boring and Gephardt can be VERY boring. Edwards, I thought, would be a rock star, and would get everyone to the polls.
In the end, though, the press pretty much ignored Edwards and he brought very little to the campaign.
Good guy, bad coverage.

3. He would have done well in OH too |
|
I still stand behind Edwards though. He was my top pick. I am sure they had a reason for not picking Gep. (likely voting record). Vilsak would have been an interesting choice too.

6. But if he were in the VP slot with Kerry at the top? |
|
I didn't mean as the actual candidate. I don't think he would have done as well as Kerry in some other states, but as VP in the Midwest, he might have pulled enough to put us over the top... maybe?

7. Gephardt would have pulled it off for us |
|
but certain Democrats didn't like his vote on the war resolution, so they decided we'd be better off losing.

14. Gephardt has a strong record on defense issues....so critical in |
|
todays climate of post-911. His voting record is to the right of both Edwards and Kerry, which would be good in pulling indies and centrists.

17. all things equal i agree |
|
but most voters are pardon my french simple and soundbyte driven. People voted for a man they would rather have a beer with..Even though hes a recovering alcoholic.. Lets face it any candidate we presented even in the vice slot..The repukes and thier media whores would create a theme about said oponent parrot the label and jo schmo soundbyte voter would swallow it and vote for bush. We lost because the message was formed and echoed by a republican pandering media... even npr was pumping the flip flop swiftboat crap..you cant beat the message
