The man certainly has Bush's measure. Thanks for this link - it was well worth it.

He flat out said that the election wasn't stolen by Bush, it was lost by Kerry.
I'm not convinced (in fact, I'd bet real money that there was significant election fraud), but that would at least explain why he isn't reporting on it.
For that matter, both could be true: as he remarks, neither candidate ran the "best" campaign they could have, both instead silently accepting the status quo, including the war, the arrest of the third party candidates, the loss of civil liberties, etc.
To bad it was Bush/Chenny v. Kerry/Edwards instead of something like Regan/Nixon v. Dean/H. Clinton...that would have gotten some fur flying.

I remember a speech by Eqbal Ahmad during the run-up to the 1991 war (Hersh gave his speech at the 7th annual Eqbal Ahmad Lecture at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA).
At the time there was some talk about "another Vietnam". Ahmad said he didn't think the war itself would be another Vietnam, but its aftermath would develop into "four or five Vietnams".

5. Good read, but very chilling message |
|
<snip>
Europe has turned against the U.S. and will begin to act soon (after the upcoming election in Germany) to restrain the "craziness" of the Bush administration. He expects they will move to settle the war in Iraq.
The economic consequences of the turn against the U.S. will be severe. Europeans will start to avoid buying U.S. made goods. Soon the Chinese and French will begin to buy oil in euros rather than dollars, and there will be a big move away from the dollar as an international currency.
Europe (led by Germany and France) will take over brokering a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The neo-cons still hope to invade Syria and Iran. They think it will be easy to knock off Syria. There is nothing to stop their trying (reality certainly won't stop them).

13. Yes, that part sounds hopeful |
|
We are hamstrung here by our laws and our leaders.
If we have to go through great economic stress, we are still lucky compared to what Iraq and other countries are experiencing because of the greed and bloodthirstiness of our "elected" officials. Needless to say I'm including the democrats in this criticism.

8. I watched Hersh give lecture at UCSB |
|
from October. It was on FSTV. Very interesting and depressing.
I have also read from Hersh that US military was at the doorstep of Syria after the invasion of Iraq and was just awaiting the go ahead to invade Syria but never got the "GO".
In addition, Iran was behind coercing us into invading Iraq so that Iran would be "top dog" in the Middle East.
I have also heard Hersh can be unreliable as some of his sources have been shown to be "liars".

11. Hersh is extremely credible |
|
However the establishment constantly attacks his credibilty since he has a habit of airing their dirty laundry (and has done so for over 40 years).
I don't know where you 'heard' that he can be unreliable, but I'd bet $100 it was a right-wing source.

14. It is A truth, but not the complete truth. I suspect that Hersch's view |
|
is hampered by people's fears to speak out. Just look at the rest of the media lap puppies - cowtowing to the admin's lines almost without question. To be blunt, i suspect that the real truth is much worse than what Hersch is able to report.
Funny, even some faux gnus sycophants are begining to worry. That fat smug judge, Napolitano, came out with a new book. In it he states that the Patriot Act was a huge mistake, and that historically, once you give them up, it is incredibly hard to recoup lost rights. The interviewer, some neocon shitheel, kept saying, "Isn't it worth giving up a few liberties in exchange for safety?" or some bullshit like that.

15. right... he did admit he held back in some of his pieces.. |
|
to protect the troops. At least with his speeches and writing, I get a sense he is reflecting reality and draws on a depth of experience and knowledge of history. Even if he is holding back some, and only sketching positions that hint at deeper concerns, he takes on and clearly contradicts the fictional patriotic hawk-hyperbole that blows out of Shrubco and the MSM. That's refreshing to me.

17. you're right... most are chasing the mighty dollar..and that means |
|
they have to mold to the corporate line to advance. my sense is that independant journalism is now discouraged by party line pressure, and economics factors that makes it easier to rely on the goverment to provide their pre-packaged talking points. Journalist that don't follow the line have to work harder, earn less, have a dificult time earning crediblitiy (since their stories contratdict the MSM drone)and getting their voices heard. DU gives me hope that there is a future for independant voices!
