Question about Coburn, the new senator from OK
Two days after the election, when there were news about Arlene Specter chances of chairing the Judiciary committee, I heard in the news (ABC, I think) that a new member was proposing the death penalty to doctors who perform abortion and another DUer said that it was Coburn.

Yet, searching google news, LAT, NYT, WP, ABC and CNN I cannot find it.

Can anyone find a reference for this story? A debate with a rabid RWer is on the line.

That RW, BTW, does not want his tax dollars to support what he consider murders. That's easy, I don't want my tax dollars to support the life style of parasites who want a small government but want all the goodies that are sent their ways: officers of pharmaceutical and military conglomerates, for example

Thanks

1. During his MTP debate, the Dem challenger brought it up.
So the info is out there... I'll take a look and see what I can find.

5. yes, schools in Oklohoma can only let one girl at a time
go to the bathroom, due to rampant lesbianism, according to Tom Coburn.

http://www.gumm.us/respondcoburn.html

OKLAHOMA CITY – A group of legislators and teachers from across Southeast Oklahoma today spoke out to denounce Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tom Coburn’s statement about the school children of Southeast Oklahoma. Yesterday’s news reports show that during a town hall meeting in Hugo, OK on August 31st, 2004 Tom Coburn commented that Southeast Oklahoma schools are “rampant” with “lesbianism.”

“Tom Coburn apparently doesn’t know anything about families in southeastern Oklahoma or the values we hold dear,” said Sen. Jay Paul Gumm, a Democrat from Durant. “If he knew us or shared our values, he would never have said our female high school students are afflicted with ‘rampant lesbianism.’ Our children deserve better than to have repulsive allegations made against them by a politician.”

Gumm said the only reason Coburn would make such a sickening charge is to avoid talking about real issues like creating jobs, improving public schools and highways, and boosting agriculture. “Given his dismal record on those issues, we shouldn’t be surprised he would try to misdirect Oklahomans with yet another shameful and unsubstantiated claim,” Gumm said.

Glad to know Oklahomans like a man like that!
He also said there was "rampant lesbianism" in schools, he's a winner!

13. Thanks a lot. He, apparently was against "Schindler's List."
From the NYT

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/14/arts/14rich.html?pagewanted=print&position=

But the distance between this hard-core red culture and the majority blue culture is perhaps best captured by Tom Coburn, the newly elected Republican senator from Oklahoma, lately famous for discovering "rampant" lesbianism in that state's schools. As a congressman in 1997, Mr. Coburn attacked NBC for encouraging "irresponsible sexual behavior" and taking "network TV to an all-time low with full frontal nudity, violence and profanity being shown in our homes." The broadcast that prompted his outrage on behalf of "parents and decent-minded individuals everywhere" was the network's prime-time showing of Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's List."

What a dick head

As a Doctor, he has performed abortions.

6. Actually ...
He just sterilizes women, usually young, poor, minority women.

The man's an idiot.

Inhoffe and Coburn ... my two Senators. Pardon me whilst I go :puke:

What turds you have for senators. Didnt Imhoff say that he was outraged that amerikans were upset over the "frat-party abuse" at Abu Grabe? And what was Coburn DOING in those women's restrooms anyway?

11. Don't pity Oklahoma.
Just the people in that state who didn't vote for Coburn or Inhoffe. The state itself wanted these assholes.

7. I was chief pilot for his dad's company for many years, I flew Tom all
over the country from the time he was in High School and know him about as well as it's possible to know someone you don't live with. He, unlike his siblings, all 3 of which are fairly reasonable people, has always been an arrogant prick, just like W ... born on 3rd base and thought he hit a triple. He is the only one of 4 kids who emulates his father who was a whoring, far-rightwing bastard (who actually physically attacked me in an Atlanta hotel room one night when I said I supported George McGovern)...I've thought of writing a book about those times, but I'm too damn lazy.
