I have a question about Sinclair video - how it got stopped
Sorry, i also just posted this in the Gen. Discussion forum, but that place is almost like a whole different world than here....i know i can get a quicker reply in here (sorry guys)

But i need to know!

are you the people behind it? i didn't post here back then - never even heard of the place, but from what i pick up on, the reason it was stopped from being aired was done similarly to what's being done now about Election Fraud?

2. many GROUPS GOT INVOLVED.
I am on YAHOO groups, County and State Dem groups, and also AOL groupd. This was a groundswell DEM and INDEPENDENT movement I feel. Even companies got involved. I wasn't involved in this forum when the email campaign was waged against Sinclair. Also many people were into the blogs and democrat.com had topics about the Sinclair movement. I must have emailed and phoned 40 advertisers. MOST of them stated they wouldn't be advertising during the segment that they didn't "believe" in advertising for political programing.

3. DU was very active in working to stop Sinclair
This place went nuts when we found out what Sinclair was planning. All of that emotion went immediately into discovering every last fact about Sinclair, its officers, its national advertisers, and its local advertisers. We started a coordinated phone call and email campaign, aiming especially at the local advertisers, to convince businesses to pull their advertising dollars from Sinclair. Their stock started to tank. We kept running lists of the responses we received on our phone calls and emails. Companies then went on the 'Patronize' and 'Boycott' lists.

It was all rather exciting.

4. Not such a victory. Sinclair didn't show Stolen Honor on that Friday, but
they showed it the night before the election. Just the same old bait and switch the Repukes use so blatantly and shamelessly.

5. Stopped Sinclair but not the film
Sinclair was blocked thanks to a PR outcry. However, the film was played on a loop all weekend on public access channels and on the PAX channel. So Sinclair either really felt the heat and backed off so they found another outlet. The other possibility is that Sinclair took the heat, then backed off to say no harm no foul, only to have PAX not take any heat at all for playing it since it is harder to rally people after the fact and how can you argue with Public Access channels. In Atlanta, the Dems played Zell Miller's 1992 convention speech on a loop during the Republican convention to show (1) that he is a hypocrite and (2) that he's starting to lose it. Oratorical style quite similar though. At anyrate, I gues Dems and Repugs took advantage of public access channels.

6. Sinclair also had sponsors pull out and their stock went down
FYI, some of their major sponsors pulled their advertising (including, by the way, Burger King). The FCC was overwhelmed with complaints and because of all the bad PR, their stock went down so they would up showing a much shorter version (as I understand it) and by the time it was shown, you would have had to be living in a cave to have missed that it was not a documentary. Anyone watching it who was ignorant enough by that point to believe it was a documantary was a Bush voter anyway I'm sure.

7. It didn't really get "stopped" and Sinclair knew what it was doing
The whole hub-bub was about generating free publicity for the "adver-info-tain-lie".. By appearing to capitulate, they just changed the format a bit and got the opportunity to "offer" Kerry a chance to "refute" their findings.(which they KNEW he would refuse, so they got EXTRA goodies and were able to pretend that THEY were trying to be "Fair", but Kerry was afraid..)..

The still showed it, just in a shortened format and not as a NEWS item..
