my favorite disenfranchisement story from Louisiana
ok
..and, remember
down here this is no new kind of thing

I had a student in one of my classes tel me this
she went to vote (off-campus...North Baton Rouge)
went into the voting booth
and the choice for PRESIDENT was NOT ON THE SCRREN AT ALL!!
she came out and asked the poll worker about it
and was told
'...go ahead and vote for all the other stuff
and then come on out'
which she did
she was at that point handed a paper ballot
for president only!

hows THAT for minority disenfranchisement?

1. Jim Crow's finest hour
Just one more lovely example of the South's eternal drive for slavery.

2. This needs to be reported, ASAP
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 11:33 AM by Straight Shooter
Specifics are critical, address of location, et cetera.

http://www.votersunite.org is the web site. The page to report problems is
http://www.votersunite.org/electionproblems_submit.asp

They are compiling a list of vote suppression and "irregularities."

edit spelling

5. I don't know about you but I would have been
kicking some butt. I think I would have walked out and called them to call election officials and then the Kerry campaign.Just for starters. Then the media. Sounds like a good way to have your vote not counted:nuke:

6. But you don't understand, folks have faith in their government
and they refuse to give up their faith because if they do, their entire existence and security come into question. The election officials are officials, they cannot be doing anything wrong, that is illegal.

10. No, I am very serious!
The majority of our fellow citizens do not think, cannot believe, that government officials will violate the law. Sure there are some greedy rove politicians that go bad, but for the most part, all are great, to be trusted. Eletion officials wouldn't do anything wrong, they are officials for pete sake.

8. Until these stories are told in the media, eveyone will think they're
"isolated incidents." If someone had a screwup at the voting booth, they're liable to think, Oh, sheesh, it must have been just me, because no one else is complaining!
