FBI Investigates Grand Rapids Company

Grand Rapids - The FBI is investigating a Grand Rapids company tonight.

At about 8am this morning agents raided the Cybernet Group on Division.

They told dozens of employees to leave, while they went through the building and confiscated computers.

Agents won't say what they're looking for, but they did tell us that they were executing two search warrants.

Cybernet has more than a dozen offices worldwide.

Influence peddling?
Well, maybe the press is noticing. The Wall Street Journal today (subscription required) is reporting on documents unearthed in the Oracle trial that call into question the independence of consulting firms in recommending software products to clients. Once again, Accenture is involved, this time in an engagement to assist Cox Communications in justifying a new financial reporting system.
In September, documents in the case show, an Oracle sales representative asked his superiors to approve a payment to Accenture "for their assistance and influence." He suggested a payment of $125,000, if Oracle signed Cox to a deal for such software of at least $1.5 million by November, or $100,000 if the deal closed by May 2004. "We need Accenture's continued support and influence to secure this win and they expect to be compensated for this help," the sales rep wrote in his request.

Chuck Phillips, Oracle's co-president, adds in an interview that "paying an influence fee is customary in the industry." If a consulting firm is "the contractor and we are the subcontractor, you have to pay to play."
Hmm..."paying an influence fee." So, would it be too much to say that the major consulting firms are involved in influence peddling? Well, according to this definition, that's exactly what it is.

When choosing a consulting to help with a software selection, executives should rule out any consulting firm that peddles its influence to software vendors.

2. Close this thread please - Cybernet confusion again
This thread makes the faulty assumption that CyberNET Group in Grand Rapids is the same Cybernet-named company as the one related to Oracle, and then goes off into the wild blue yonder.

It is misleading, and needs to be shut down.

CyberNET Group has no connection to Accenture.

5. If it's confusing to you, then don't read it
What is up with the demands for censorship? Just because you don't see a connection or there isn't a direct link doesn't mean that one couldn't be discovered. Don't you think that if there was an obvious connection that it would have been found by now? But why would you automatically assume that there couldn't be secondary or indirect links? Was Oliver North discovered immediately in the Iran-Contra investigations?

You've made your point, you don't want to hear about Accenture and Cybernet. So don't bother reading the threads that have Cybernet or Baypoint in them and move on to something you'd rather discuss.

6. Thank you
If everyone looks back I found a link where several of the companies were at a seminar together I believe out in Florida. When I went back to check on the link it was broken.

11. Gingersnaps, there is no link whatsoever between...
Hydro One and Jeb Bush.

I have googled every possible combination of the two, and there isn't a single link anywhere.

Now, I realize if someone doesn't know how to search properly, and they go to advance search and type in search exactly on Hydro One, and also search for the words Neil Bush, that links do come up with all the right words - but I have looked at each one, and there is no connection.

So, why does someone who comes to the rescue of 2-week wonders who put out misleading information, themself post a thread with information, that does not have a single link?

This is the exact same thing that Auditors has been doing at BBV.

So, ummm, care to comment on why you posted what you did?

4. Uh huh. Can't fool me.

I'm going to keep my eye on the vote fraud issue, and not try to chase down every person that might have sat next to anybody who had the same name as someone who read about Hitler as a child.

12. The local connection : Cybernet + Amway
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 08:58 PM by indigonation
This is my second post on DU, actually, it is the same as the first but I didn't really put it under a good header. So If you already read this, please disregard. Although I've been lurking here on DU for awhile, I've been following the voter fraud and BBV stories as closely as anyone on this and other bloggers. This post is fairly long, but I promise to provide some educational links regarding our neo-con friends in my neck of the woods.

I live fairly close to CyberNet headquarters and happen to know a little something about the local community. I also work in IT and know that although a fairly good company, the owner is a complete slime ball. They have been sued several times for fraud, so don't put anything past this guy if the GOP, were to say, provide some sort of financial incentive.

There is another connection to be considered, one that you may not have seen elsewhere. As they say, politics is local. But what I present is completely circumstantial and please draw your own conclusions. I present only the information at hand for your consideration.

This original posting at BBV was intriguing, and many have seen it: Bay Point Schools, Cal Tech, and the CyberNET connection

Here is a new story regarding the FBI investigation from today's news:
CyberNET employees ... no more paychecks ...

The article gives more information about bank, wire, and email fraud, again, no mention of election fraud, but don't forget that the FBI has all of their financial and electronic documents at hand, if anything is there for discovery, it will be.

What you may not have noticed are the names of their biggest customers in town. This includes the VanAndel arena, and the DeVos Place. Now these names are very well known in Grand Rapids, as DeVos and VanAndel are the entreprenuers behind the Amway Corporation. They both are in the richest 300 Americans. They basically own Grand Rapids, both families have donated culturally and philanthopically.
Grand Rapids Info: Scroll down the page to see DeVos and VanAndel Centers

But they are also very politically active with the GOP and the Christian Reformed Church. They are right in line with the current neo-con agenda, and have plenty of money to throw around. They have donated to Creationist organizations, Organizations to Bring Religion back into government, and Right Wing Voter Fund organizations.

Moreover, Betsy DeVos is the chair of the Michigan GOP, but she is stepping down to make a run in 2006 against Gov Jennifer Granholm (D) or Debbie Stabenow (D).

The Cybernet inference is this. Cybernet does the IT services for probably all of the VanAndel and DeVos establishments in downtown Grand Rapids - undoubtably their biggest customer. Barton Watson (CyberNet) lives in Ada, a wealthy suburb of GR, and so do the DeVos and VaAndel families. Undoubtably they know each other well through business and social connections. As I said, this is highly speculative, but ala Scott Peterson, there is motive, money, means, and a crook to pull it off.

Anyway, I have included an assortment of search links. Please check out how deeply these wealthy individuals support GOP and the Christian Right. Note: Nowhere was there any public connection between Barton Watson and any of these individuals, although they are all members of the GR Chamber of Commerce.

I promise you this is for your conspiracy theory pleasure only. Wouldn't you just love to find out a devout Christian Evangelical family supported massive voter fraud to forward their agenda?
