Strange counting in Pennsylvania
There are discrepancies in the totals of the 2 websites noted in the following counties:

    Cumberland County
    Lehigh County
    Lycoming County
    McKean County
    Mercer County
    Philadelphia County
    Wyoming County
    York County

http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/default.aspx?control=StatewideReturnsByCounty&ElecID=1&ID=1

The changed totals from election night to the updated numbers can be found here: http://wilkes-fs1.wilkes.edu/~hcox/pres/PaPres2004.html

Although the numbers vary from county to county, the total adjustment for BOTH Bush and Kerry = 14,709 votes!!!
WTF are the odds of that happening!?!?!

1. I'm really glad someone's checking Pennsylvania.
The so-called "red shift" was substantial here in PA, and keep wondering if (where) there were problems here. I wish I had more expertise in this sort of thing.

2. The totals are from different updates
The DoS website says "updated 11/8/2004, 10:15 am", with 100% of the districts reporting. The other spreadsheet states it's source as The Philadelphia Enquirer dated 11/4/2004, so the data itself is probably from 11/3/2004. In other words, I think the DoS just has more recently updated numbers.

I'm seeing an adjustment of +14719 for Kerry and +6250 for *. How are you getting the same increase for both?

I'm gonna keep working on PA, cuz the red shift really REALLY bugs me too. Good place to hide those extra popular * votes.

3. I'm glad you're on it . Just seems like there must be something
there.

Maybe it would be a little harder since we don't have a convenient Repub SOS to run interference for any fraud. Apparently we have a Secretary of the Commonwealth, appointed by our very Democratic governor (I just found that out).

I wish I knew how to do that spreadsheet stuff, cause I know I'd like it. Is there a crash course in analyzing election stats anywhere? (just kidding --i know there isn't :-( )
