US News Election Moonshine Moment .....what a title for a good article.
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 12:06 PM by KoKo01
This article starts off with Steve Freeman's work about "Exit Polls" and looks at first like it's debunking him...then it takes a twist and asks WHY aren't the MSM looking into this. It was very hard to snip the article, I had to cut out too much, but it's a MUST READ. First because it shows how fearful the MSM are of investigate or reporting on Election Fraud...so they start off with a "debunk" then say there really is something there, but if the reader only reads the first paragraghs (which I had to delete) you would think there was NOTHING there...move along.

Election Moonshine Moment
(hits you like a jolt of white lightening)
Hard evidence? “Not yet,” says Paulos, who is also a columnist for ABCNews.com and the best-selling author of Innumeracy and other books. But he emphasizes how little it takes to change the outcome of an election. If a half-dozen voters per precinct had changed their choice, Paulos says, Kerry could be president-elect.

The concerns go beyond Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio.“Similarly huge differences between the final tallies and the exit poll percentages occurred in 10 of the 11 battleground states, all of them in Bush’s favor,” Paulos says.

Which brings us to our lightning bolt of clarity: “Absent any proof or compelling reasons for the differences between the final tallies and the exit polls,” Paulos writes, “I do not understand why these gross discrepancies are being so widely shrugged off.”

Why does this seem to be a nonissue among so many, particularly in the mainstream press? Is it that people are concerned about being tagged conspiracy nuts if they seek to find out if fraud has just been committed?

This is a legitimate story. Knowledgeable, highly educated, well-respected people have looked at this election and concluded there are some statistically mind-boggling results. One explanation is widespread fraud. The media should be on this like hungry dogs on fresh meat.

So far, they’ve treated it like a bone to bury.

4. The ironic part is
that the legitiamcy of the Ukranian election is being challenged by the USA mostly on the basis of exit polling!!!

6. this killed me
"At this stage, we have a puzzling discrepancy but, alas, more than one plausible hypothesis. We need more data and analysis to sort out the possible explanations, and that will take time. But almost every serious scholar and political operative I have spoken to on this issue believes that we’ll discover problems with exit polls, not large and widespread electoral fraud.”

I guess he only talks to republican 'scholars and political operatives'.

8. Ohhhh ....I differ, I think we will find we'll discover widespread
electorial fraud. It will take awhile and I think it will even lead to "Selection 2000." But...it will happen.

7. Encourage John Allen Paulos to publish OpEd in NYT
'Election Moonshine Moment' is really good - Paulos' comments in the original article are even stronger:

John Allen Paulos, Professor of Mathematics at Temple, published an OpEd in the Philadelphia Inquirer supporting Stephen Freeman's paper. He has two strong statements: "Since exit polls historically have been quite accurate, and the differences as likely to have been in one candidate's favor as the other's, we're confronted with the question of what caused them. Given the INDEFENSIBLE WITHOLDING of the full exit-poll data by Edison Media Research, Mitofsky International, the Associated Press and various networks, we can only hazard guesses based on what was available election night. The obvious speculation, alluded to above, is that the exit samples were decidedly nonrandom." and "Absent any proof or compelling reasons for the differences between the final tallies and the exit polls in the swing states, I don't understand why these gross discrepancies are being so widely shrugged off."

Email him to thank him for speaking out and to encourage him to publish this in the New York Times. His book 'Innumeracy' was on NY Times bestseller list for 18 weeks - they might just print an OpEd by him...

9. Thanks...will check it out. Think that a reasonable debtate on all of this
by the Polling/Statistical/Political Community is such a good thing...and bodes well for cleaning up the Fraud, Corruption, Graft and whatever else is left over after "Selection 2000 and Mid-Terms and 2004!

Thanks for the link.

good read and doesn't require a "Registration" unless it's changed since my original post...and I'm guilty...I didn't check the link in my original..sorry.
