Latitude and longtiude of the precincts could be used, in conjunction with other software, to make maps such as:

Where blue=Kerry, red=Bush.

I haven't done comparisons to 2000 on a precinct level. The changes in the precinct boundaries do complicate things. One thing though: you say that 82 precinct codes have gone away, and 193 existed in both 2000 and 2004. There are over 1400 precincts, right? So how does the total break down?

5. ah thanks, a map like this may be my next step
I've sort of gotten stuck. I took your spreadsheet and added to it the 2000 results and the 'machine problems' from the incidents.xls at eir. Your precinct location data was invaluable, as the incident report isn't terribly detailed.

I don' know if the missing precincts is usable or not, I don't think we can tell if those voters went to another one or not. Probably just another example of obfuscation to make things harder to track! Perhaps the 193 where Kerry got less votes than Gore in 2000 is more meaningful.

I can email you the spreadsheet if you'd like

12. those totals on the spreadsheet...
...this post of mine is probably not of interest to anyone but me, LOL, but I'm very surprised at some of the precincts / neighborhoods that Kerry took handily. There are some misconceptions still alive in northeast Ohio about Eastside vs. Westside, and for me, some of these just got erased, LOL. Middleburg Hts., Parma, Parma Hts, North Olmsted, Olmsted Twnshp, Berea, Brooklyn, Cuyahoga Hts, Fairview Park... all went for Kerry. Twenty years ago, that would never have happened, those are "traditionally" solid red municipalities that have slowly been changing over the years. The fact that Bush only took one precinct in Berea, and none at all in Brooklyn, really paints a different picture of my hometown for me. Cleveland is one of the most segregated big cities in the country (or so it's often pointed out). But you couldn't tell that by these vote totals. Kerry took every blue collar area and every culturally diverse area in the county with ease. He even took all 5 precints in rich Moreland Hills.

Maybe that Eastside vs. Westside thing is just like the Red vs. Blue: created by the media to further separate us all.

Proud to say Kerry kicked butt handily in my culturally diverse suburb.

19. There is more up to date information
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 03:36 AM by jfern
That is the election night data.
This is newer information. If someone wants, I can merge it with the other EXCEL file, but maybe someone else has already done this.
http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/boe/results/history/2004/EL52.TXT

But, as I mention here, it still has some serious problems in certain areas, particularly Cleveland Ward 4:

25. that's too recent
thanks but that's since they took out the extra votes

here's one precinct anyone can check to see if they have the older data:

VOTING DISTRICTVOTES
CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS V

REGISTERED VOTERS
570

CAST
1382

% TOTAL (voter turnout)
242.46%

Note, the current CAST is 338. That means 1044 VOTES HAVE DISAPPEARED IN THAT ONE TOWN ALONE!!!!!!!!!

So if you have something that shows 1382 votes cast in Cuyahoga heights Village, please post or send it.

I know for a fact that it showed that number on their website about 2 weeks ago. I saw there with my own eyes.
