Columbus, Ohio rally- Stand up for Democracy NOW!!!!!
Important:

Dec. 4, 1-4:00 at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus,
Ohio.

CASE is organizing a rally: "Investigate All 88"
"Revote Ohio or Death of Democracy - Choose one."

We hope to have out-of town as well as local
activists.

Wear all black to mourn the Death of Democracy.

Follow www.caseohio.org for further details.

I just got this in an email. I talked to Juliet Stewart from Ohio Recount and she told me Palast will be speaking and Jesse Jackson will be there although he will not be speaking. A thousand people are going to be bussed in from all over Pennsylvania. We need people to look into whether other states are doing this also. Our brothers and sisters in the Ukraine have shown us the way- please don't waste our momentum by sitting in your house on Saturday. We cannot sit by and watch our democracy die!!!!

The Free Press -- Independent News Media - Election 2004

Election 2004

Jesse Jackson demands Ohio presidential recount, blasts GOP election officials, and says Kerry supports the process
by Bob Fitrakis & Harvey Wasserman
November 29, 2004

COLUMBUS--Preaching to a packed, wildly cheering central Ohio citizen congregation, Rev. Jesse Jackson blasted the presidential election back into the national headlines Sunday. Jackson said new findings cast serious doubt on the idea that George W. Bush beat John Kerry in Ohio November 2. A GOP "pattern of intentionality" was behind a suspect outcome, he said. At stake is "the integrity of the vote" for which "too many have died." "We can live with losing an election," he said. "We cannot live with fraud and stealing."

Jackson is the first major national figure to come here challenging the idea that Ohio has given George W. Bush a second term in the White House. Jackson emphasized that the vote "has not yet been certified" and demanded the removal of Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell from supervising the recount, which Jackson termed a case of "the fox guarding the chicken house." Blackwell co-chaired the Bush-Cheney campaign in Ohio and has been widely criticized for a series of partisan decisions that have thus far indicated Bush carried the state. Exit polls by Zogby and CNN showed Ohio going for Kerry with 53% and 51% respectively, which would win him presidency in the Electoral College.

Blackwell says a complex series of rules allows him to limit a recount to just a few days. He says he may certify the Ohio vote between December 3d and 6th, with any recount due to be completed December 13, when Ohio's electors are scheduled to meet.

19. Coming from Pittsburgh
My husband & me -- but we've never been to a rally before. What I'd really like guidance on is, Making Signs For Dummies.

"proudtobeadem" posted really great pictures from a protest rally in Denver a week ago. Don't miss them -- they're inspirational!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=203&topic_id=69662

Now that I look at them again, on 2nd thought, those signs really don't look so hard.

31. Making Signs
1) Use FoamCore. Cardboard or cardstock is heavy & warps and bends too easily.

2) Also use the FoamCore to make the handle if possible. Wood is heavy and unweildy. You can make the handle by scoring one side of the paper on the foamcore and folding it back to make a long rectangle or triangle.
Use a heavy duty stapler to staple the handle to the sign. Put the handle at least 1/3 of the way up the back to make it sturdy. Then use DuctTape to tape the Handle closed and to doubly secure it to the sign.
Use the duct tape to make a comfortable "handle" for you. It's hard work holding a sign up . You may also want to consider a small piece of structural wood inside the handle at the gripping point.

3) Use acrylic paint. Poster paint flakes and is water soluable. Go to a Big Lots or some 2nd hand store to pick up some paint. Sometimes the hardware store will have returned paint (wrong color or some such) on the cheap.

4) MAKE IT GRAPHIC!!! Dark colors: dark blue, black are best followed by red or green outlined with black. If you are using colored foamcore, consider the color of the paper when choosing the color of the paint. Big Blocky letters. Use your word processor to figure out relative spacing first. Remember we are the literate ones. Nothing looks worse than a sign with bad spacing or incorrect spelling.

5) Consider making wind holes in your signs. If it is windy it gets to be a struggle to keep your sign up right. Wind holes will help the wind pass through your sign. Scatter them across the face of the placard, in places where they do not interfere with the message. This has the added bonus of making the sign lighter.
Do this work on a flat stable surface. Not carpet. You want to keep the sign from bending.

You might also consider making the sign and then assembling it on site. In other words take the handle and placard seperately then staple and tape on site. This will make it easier to transport.

gods-speed

30. Sister Rallies across the USA
I'd like to see sister rallies going across the USA. Maybe that would finally penetrate the MSM. I posted this somewhere else but haven't found the thread.

How do you organize the various progressive groups for a rally? I'm new to activism (heck I don't even know who organized the rally last week in Denver and I live in CO). As mom with little ones I can't pick up and go to Ohio. I bet there are a lot of people like me. Can we stage sympathy rallies in other states?

Also, how about Jessie Jackson setting up an unofficial revote in one of the suspicious precincts? Have lawyers or Notary Public or whatever on hand to have people sign affidavits that they are voting today the same way that they voted for President on Nov 2, 2004. Have independent people like Media or Professors watch the handling and tabulation of the votes. If enough Kerry voters show up (doesn't matter about Bush voters) to prove something is wrong with the numbers - well wouldn't that be better than Connolly case?

59. Lizzie I would think many of your members have university age kids.
Maybe it would be a good idea to contact them and have them spread the word, they spend an inordinate amount of time on MSN and could reach a large group. I don't know how to word it but maybe they could challenge each other to show up for the rally. Youth for democracy a grassroots effort. Just a suggestion from your Canadian neighbor for Kerry.

71. BUSH CHEATED 04 & Blackwell RECUSE graphics here
For the Columbus rally and just about anywhere, I have
created two files that can be downloaded printed and
copied at Kinkos.

BUSH CHEATED is color but can be printed and
photocopied B&W to save $$$

http://somnamblst.tripod.com/fraud.pdf

Blackwell RECUSE

http://somnamblst.tripod.com/recuse.pdf

Or you can go to http://somnamblst.tripod.com to
download other files including TIFs

Feel free to disseminate or modify these images.

If you would like to leave semi permamant expressions
of your feelings of this election I highly recommend
3M Super 77 spray adhesive from Staples $11.

72. If there is a sea of red hands on TV, we've won.
If we turn on the news and thousands of pairs of red mittens and gloves are in the air, it's officially a movement.

My midwestern heart is with you.

Or RT 80/90 over to Toledo then down? Leaving in a couple minutes, could someone verify quickly? Thanks!

83. Anyone got a boom box they can bring so we can play Mosh by Eminem?
I just burned a CD of it. I also have Rap the Vote.

The back of my sign is going to say:

Let My People Vote.

This is a fraud and a civil rights issue.

There's your uniform, troops.

Let me know if you see TV covering it. I'm stuck in the Dairy State, and I wanna see you guys all decked out.
