Green Party Update of Ohio Recount efforts:
COBB/LaMARCHE 2004 http://www.votecobb.org

For immediate release:  November 30, 2004

GREEN PARTY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SEEKS FEDERAL COURT JURISDICTION IN NEW OHIO RECOUNT CASE

11/30 -- Attorneys for Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb asked a federal court today to take jurisdiction of, and ultimately dissolve, a temporary restraining order issued by a Delaware County, Ohio judge attempting to prevent Cobb from seeking a recount of the presidential ballots cast in that county.

Cobb and Libertarian Michael Badnarik, who are jointly filing the recount demand, are named as defendants, along with their attorneys, in the restraining order sought by the Delaware County prosecuting attorney.

The Delaware County judge issued the temporary restraining order without contacting or seeking any input from the candidates or their attorneys.

"This is an illegal and outrageous attempt to suppress our
rights to participate in the democratic process.  As a candidate, I have a right under Ohio law to demand a recount.  If the Delaware County Board of Elections has a problem with that, they need to take it up with the Ohio legislature," said David Cobb.

"It makes you wonder if Delaware County has something to hide. Why else would they try to prevent a recount and issue an injunction without giving the candidates any notice to participate?" asked Cobb-LaMarche Media Director Blair Bobier.

Cobb and Badnarik initiated the recount demand on November 19 by sending letters and the appropriate bond to each of the election directors of Ohio's 88 counties, requesting a hand count of the votes in every precinct in every county in the state.  The total cost of the bond, based on the number of precincts in which a recount is demanded, is $113,600.

Support for a recount in Ohio is growing on a daily basis.  On
Sunday, the Reverend Jesse Jackson held a press conference and rally at a Columbus church and announced his support.

The Cobb-LaMarche campaign is now in the process of recruiting volunteers and raising funds for monitoring the actual recount process. Volunteers and donors should visit the campaign website, http://www.votecobb.org, for more information.  Information about the Green Party can be found at http://www.gp.org.

1. Look at the numbers!
Forget about recounts! We don't need them!

Demand the data for voter registration by precinct, polling machines per precinct, voter turnout per precinct and vote tallies per precinct. Any third-grader can see the pattern, and any forensic accountant will tell you that John Kerry won in Ohio and in Florida!

First Off Methinks is probably the most annoying word I've ever heard.

Secondly, no idea what you are talking about, since I have never posted the same post 10 times and said 'Hey Everybody, stop EVERYTHING, just care about this!!!'

So you are way off base and your post is therefore meaningless.

:hi:

12. Would you prefer to see, "Get over it!" several dozen times?

I've seen this recount stuff so many times, I've had enough. It's even more annoying than I am.

Or how about all of the cheerleading I must wade through? Have you read any complaints from me about that. No, you haven't, because up until now I haven't mentioned it.

Recount! Recount! Recount! Recount!

Even in threads that have nothing to do with recounts someone has written about recounts. Yet nobody seems to question why we want recounts. Sure we want them to count every vote, but what do we expect them to show? If any fraud transpired, the perpetrators covered their tracks. If no fraud occurred, we can at best hope to catch a few more glitches that probably won't affect the outcome. The other glitches have no audit trails, so they're dead ends.

Would anyone care to start a discussion on the pros and cons of recounts?

I'll start.

Pros: possibly spoiled ballots, of which there probably aren't enough to swing this election

Cons: possibly a colossal waste of time and resources, when other more certain alternatives exist

Excuse me. Others threads exist about my topic. I've responded to them. Here, I'm responding to people droning on about recounts. But instead of being nasty about it, I'm waving around an alternative, to them waving around their recounts.

I hear that DU has an ignore feature, but I haven't seen anything about a content filter. I'll try to stop reading about recounts, if you stop reading me. How's that? :)

I'm tired. I'm bitchy. I just want to see some progress.

10. Any Kerry donaters out there?
I gave Kerry several hundred dollars, and now I am thinking about writing to him and asking him to donate the money to the recount effort. Anybody else think this is a workable idea?

He is sitting on $51 million dollars of OUR MONEY.

15. Kerry is comfortable with cash
He wants to be comfy with the other 99 Senators.

Maybe Kerry is uncomfortable mixing with the people
that gave him small contributions.

Too Beltway, John! We will build grassroots around you!

The Cobb-LaMarche Campaign
Working to Make Every Vote Count!
----------------------------------

Please forward to those you think
might be interested. THANK YOU.
-- Lynne Serpe

Dear Friends,

The battle to recount the votes in Ohio reached several new
milestones this week, and the importance - and difficulty
- of what we all are doing grows w ith each passing day.
The closer we get to exposing the systemic problems with
our voting system and how these problems undermine trust in
election results , the more resistence we are encountering.
For the latest news, see http://www.votecobb.org

We remain confident of a positive outcome, however, because
Mahatma Gandhi reminded us that when a righteous movement
for social justice takes on entrenched power, "First they
ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they=20 fight you,
then you win."

TODAY'S NEWS:

Cobb Sues Blackwell in Federal Court Over Ohio Recount Green
Party Presidential Candidate Says GOP Secretary of State
is Stalling December 2nd =E2=80=94 Green Party presidential
candidate David Cobb today f iled counterclaims in the United
States District Court for the Southern District=20 of Ohio
against Republican Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell,
asserting that

Blackwell is stalling the Ohio recount and abusing his authority.

YOUR HELP NEEDED - MORE THAN EVER!

What began as a recount in Ohio is now a recount in Ohio and
New Mexico and lawsuits in state and federal courts in Ohio to
make sure that the recount happens soon enough to be meaningful.
While your support helped us raise th e initial $250,000 needed
to get the process going, $88,000 more is needed immediately
so that we will have an additional $1000 on hand for each of
the 88 Ohio counties when the recount process starts as early
as next week.

Can we count on you today to help in this historic undertaking?
Please go t o http://www.votecobb.org/ and give as much as you
can (almost all of our donations are in the $20 to $100 range).
In addition, we are still looking for volunteers to help observe
the recount on our behalf: please complete our volunteer form
at http://www.votecobb.org/

Our updated website gives more information about how your
money is being spent: http://votecobb.org/recount/financial/

Thanks, as always, for your assistance, and please join us in
Ohio or New Mexico.

Sincerely,

Lynne Serpe
Cobb-LaMarche
Campaign Manager

P.S. The forces who would like to stop the recount have all
the resources they need to oppose us. All we have is you and
the thousands of small donors whose belief in democracy has
brought us this far. Please join us at www.votecobb.org!
