44. Sorry... the visual just suggests bondage....

And not the non-consensual kind either....

I mean for one thing, the "person" isn't walking...in other words the feet are parallel. Usually that happens when you are lying on your back in bed. (or dead)

The ribbon, then, is visually on top of the prone person. And it becomes a substitute for the prone person's head. Now the ribbon becomes a hood.

And if you are wondering where I'm coming up with this stuff. I teach design at University (among other subjects) and do design for a living (among other things) ....Symbols speak to our sub-conscious mind. There is just so much here that is unclear.

Take the text off and show it to a dozen people for some face to face feedback. If they consistently come up with something negative for a narrative, you've got a communication problem.

Look at the paper-clip thread. That is a brilliant use of mundane imagery to spark interest in a subject. These particular feet are too loaded with subtext. The first thing I thought of was that smarmy story where jeebus walks on the beach with somebody and leaves footprints. Except in your illustration they are bloody. Those kind of "footprints" are often used in children's book illustrations to suggest spooky happenings...ghosts and such. They were also popular in the 70's "flower power" era as decals. There was even a customized gas pedal for your car in that shape.



A red thumbprint would suggest a crime. A horrendous crime at that.

But all that said, I appreciate that you are trying to make a difference and that you would subject yourself to a public critique.
